Chapter 15

[The man]

  Rictus - I think that's his name - was heading towards The Woman who was crawling towards Joe from the side of his car. I thought Cheedo said she was hurt, why was she of all people going to kill Joe herself. I had to give her her best chance. I couldn't just run and attack him, but I needed to draw him away from her.
   This had to be the biggest human being I'd ever seen. He looked like he been taking steroids since birth. Though he was enormous in size, I think his brain was a few sizes smaller than it should be. He also had two tubes of oxygen strapped to his back; a side effect from being born in the wasteland.
   I wasn't going to be able to win a hand to hand combat fight against him, since he was so much stronger than the war boys I had been fighting off like bees. I threw a heavy object from the rig at his head, distracting him from The Woman. I got closer to him to keep him occupied. I was frantically avoiding his punches, if his hand were to even graze me the force would carry me of the side of the rig.
  Ping!
  I peeked behind the mountain of a man and saw a mother lowering her gun. Fumes shot out from a tank on Rictuss back. She had shot one of them. While he was distracted, and frantically trying to fix his punctured tank, I grabbed the other one, severed it from his back, and repeatedly smashed it against his temple. He finally collapsed and I dropped the tank into the rushing sand below.
   I could see her, she was hanging onto to the side of the Joe's car, barely I might add. I jumped over Rictus, and onto the hood of the rig. Joe's car and the front of the rig were only inches away, close enough for me to get over safely. Although, I would have jumped to save her even if it wasn't. I owed her that.
   I knelt down over the side of the car and grabbed ahold of the brim of her pants, pulling her up into the rig with me. I sat down with her in my lap. Cheedo was in the corner of the rig, but then moved to the back.
  "He's dead!" She told the others. "He's dead."
  "Untie Furiosa." The Woman told me.
   Her face was pale white and blood was splattered across it. She had killed Joe.
  "Furiosa's alive?" I asked. I thought Joe would have killed her when he captured her. I guess not.
  I hesitantly picked up The Woman and pushed her to the side. I didn't want to leave her for too long. I bounced into the front of the car and saw Furiosa chained to a chair. She wasn't looking so good herself. She had bruises on her face, arms, and anything that wasn't covered with cloth. But she was alive.
  Bolt cutters, where were those damn things when you need them. I had to think of another way to get this chain off her.

  [ Immortan Joe was dead. But the fight was not over. Once Cheedo told the girls and remaining mothers that Joe was dead they started to make their way to the Gigahorse. The Dag was the first one to crawl out of the sun roof. She looked through the windshield at the Keeper of Seeds, who had a peaceful smile blessing her lips and her eyes closed. She was gone. The Dag quickly grabbed the bag of seeds off her lap and held it close to her chest as she stepped over into the other car. Only Capable and Nux were on the rig.
   "When your across safe, i'll jam the throttle and follow you." Nux told her.
    Capable did not want to leave her love. It was safe to say she loved him. She was new to the whole game, but only one feeling could explain this warmth in her heart.
    "Come on!" A mother called to the two. "We're nearly at the pass."
    Capable was shaken from her thoughts. Nux nodded, assuring her it was okay to go.
    The redhead stared down into her bright blue eyed hero, who stared back at her.
Capable grabbed a mother's hand and climbed into the Joe's car. A deep scream of rage echoed through the air.
    Rictus had woken up.
    Rictus ran for Capable, but not was quick enough, giving the rig time to decelerate.
    Rictus heard about his father's death and seeing a traitoring war boy infuriated him. With his enormous strength he ripped the engine off the front of the rig. Nux and Capable both knew what was about to happen. They shared one last moment together, their eyes never separating. He whispered something to the red head and pointed to her.

"Witness me."

It was so different from the other war boys yells and even his own previous yells. He wasn't dying for Immortan Joe this time. He was dying for her. Nux hoped and still believed in an afterlife. An afterlife with her. Capable slowly extended her hand out in front of her, then grabbed the air before pulling it to her chest. The Vulvanlini's hand gesture.

The Gigahorse went under the pass. Nux turned the wheel all the way to the left. The war rig flew on its side killing Rictus immediately. The rig smashed into the rocks before being covered in parts from the other cars as they crashed into each other. The pass was blocked. Nux was dead. ]
