#3: "i let you down."
android reader au.CW: slight gore, death
=========================
"good morning, tsuyu."the green-haired girl looks at me, smiling.
"i told you that you could call me asui, y/n."
she sips her drink. i looked at her, tilting my head, before sitting down in the seat beside her.
hi, i'm android no. 0107, also known as y/n. i'm tsuyu's personal protector, purchased a year ago by her parents. she was the one who gave me my name.
my role as her protector, as you'd probably have guessed, was to ensure her safety. of course, not like an overprotective parent who shields their child from everything. i'm just there to make sure tsuyu is not in danger at any given moment. most of tsuyu's classmates have androids like me too.
my slight 'life' story aside, it was time for tsuyu to get ready for school. today is a quite a big day for those in class 1-a; it was going to be their first time doing a rescue drill. i was quite excited for the frog-like girl, well, as much excitement an android could express.
skipping forward to a few hours later, everybody in 1-a was dressed in their hero costume. tsuyu too was wearing her trademark green outfit. the whole class was abuzz, ready to embark on this important lesson.
everyone's androids were allowed to tag along today. usually, we were asked to stand aside during hands-on lessons like these. i stood next to tsuyu, ready for the next set of instructions.
everyone was split into groups. when it was our team's turn to go, i trailed behind tsuyu. i wanted to make sure that she had the opportunity to do everything by herself. i'd only step in if her life was at stake. anyways, i've already assessed the area; zero to no risk of any life-threatening situations to happen.
maybe i should've taken that 0.01% chance of fatal injuries into consideration.
tsuyu and her teammates were assigned to this really run-down building. their 'civilian' was located in the basement. of course, there were multiple obstacles along the way to delay their rescue process.
i guess i should've been more alert when i realised bakugō was in the team. i thought that his android could or would restrain him. i guess not.
before the rest of the team could come up with a plan, the blonde boy ran ahead. he blew up anything and everything that was in his way. his android only trailed behind him, sweeping aside debris. tsuyu, concerned about her classmate's safety, went after him. i couldn't stop her in time.
i stepped in after her. my danger meter slowly increased. barely any light. dust all over. debris littering the floor. i looked around, finding a blur of green just a small distance ahead. i ran ahead, ready to drag her out of here. this building's structural support was too weak.
i walked ahead. bakugō and his android came into view as i got closer to tsuyu. the stairway to the basement was blocked. i grabbed tsuyu by the back of her collar, dragging her backwards.
my programmed alert started playing, "it's getting too dangerous, let's leave the vicinity."
tsuyu, though slightly reluctant, relaxed in my hold. i let go of her collar.
and that's when disaster struck.
a loud explosion shook the building. i snapped my head towards the source. bakugō. he exploded everything that was blocking the entryway. dust was falling from the ceiling. the building wasn't made to withstand such strong explosions.
cracks started forming, too fast for my liking. we had to leave, fast. i was going to grab tsuyu, but she pushed me back forcefully. i landed on my back, something crushing my feet in the process. thank god i wasn't programmed to comprehend the concept of pain.
but, what about tsuyu? i sat up immediately, coming face to face with a pair of black eyes.
my vision had slight static. it was red too, with an internal alert blaring.
tsuyu... her lower half was buried under the fallen ceiling. red tainted the block on top of her. sickening cracks echoed as she tried to move. her face was a mess, tear-stricken and covered with blood splatters and dust. she winced with every tiny movement.
i didn't understand. the alert, louder this time, blares, "alert! protect tsuyu asui: mission failed."
my vision blurs. i tried to focus on her face.
"commencing self-destruct in 5 seconds."
she held my hand.
4 seconds.
"tsuyu."
3 seconds.
she placed her head in my hands.
1 second.
"asui..."
and everything went dark.
