A I D A N

Waking up, I realized I fell asleep on the floor. Great, I thought, struggling to get up.

"Ella?" I whispered.

"You up yet? Is anyone one up?"

Brian rolled over.

"What?"

"Hi"

"Shut up," he said, laughing.

"I made a plan," I replied, looking serious.

As soon as those words slipped out, both Ella and Keagan woke up.

Keagan gave me a sharp look.

"What plan?" He asked, slowly walking over.

"Last night,"

I looked around the room.

"Last night what?" Ella asked, moving beside me.

"Last night I was thinking. Ella? You have the keys to this room, right?"

Ella took a breath.

"Well. Yeah. They probably changed the lock by now as soon as they realized it was gone. "

"Go try it," I said, pointing to the cell door.

Ella took the key out of her pocket. The Key was small and rusty. It looked as it would of been out in the rain for days. She got up as everyone stared.

Slipping her arm through the open space, she placed the key in the lock.

"Be careful," keagan said, cautiously.

Ella looked at him.

"You sound like my mom," she replied, sarcastically.

The squeal of a door opening reached our ears.

"You opened it!" Brian said, jumping up.

"Be quiet. That wasn't me," she said.

She took the key out of the lock. Except it wouldn't come out.

"Ella. Take the key out. Now. " I said.

She shook the key.

"It. Won't. Come. Out. " she replied, saying each word after a tug.

I stood up and headed over to her.

She looked at me.

We were staring at each other for about 5 minutes before Keagan stood between us.

"Alright," he said, pushing us apart.

"Either this is a love story and we die, or we get out and actually LIVE"

I grabbed the key out of Ella's hand, her hand touching mine.

She smiled.

"Let me try. Are you sure the key didn't work?"

"I'm sure"

Placing the key into the lock, i shook it.

Nothing.

I turned to Brian and the rest of us.

"They changed the lock,"

Brian jumped up.

"What?! That can't be possible. How??"

"They must of noticed that one of the keys for the doors was missing and changed the lock just in case"

"But we were right here the whole time. How could they of possibly done that?"

"Geez. I don't know. Maybe when we were doing something called SLEEP?"

He gave me a sarcastic look.

Footsteps echoed down the hall.

"Hey!" a guard yelled, running towards us.
