Chapter Fourteen :

*Kat's POV*

"Aargh!"

I slammed my fists down on the table and clenched my jaw in frustration.

Almost three days had passed since I saw Iris last and no matter how much I searched, I just couldn't find her.

"That damn vampire is going to pay when I get my hands on him, he's gonna regret taking her."

Thinking about that filthy vampire laying even a finger on her fueled my rage.

NO ONE takes my best friend from me.

Without much thought, I slammed my fist down once again; but this time, it went through the table and the pain brought me back to my senses.

"This is no time to be throwing a temper tantrum! Think Kat, think!"

I shook my head back and forth a few times to gather my thoughts and emotions.

"Bingo."

I smiled in triumph.

"I can get help from the pack."

*Micah's POV*

After the ball, which had been a total success, Iris and I headed back to my room.

"You know," Iris looked up at me as we were walking down the corridor, "I think that was the most fun I've had in a long time."

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see her smile at me.

"I'm glad you had fun," I gently took ahold of her hand and intertwined my fingers with hers.

At my touch, I could her her heart immediately begin to race.

Hah, how cute.

As we approached my door, I withdrew my hand from hers and watched with the slightest hint of amusement as a tiny scowl crept across her features.

"Don't scowl, it unbecoming of someone with a face as beautiful as yours."

I laughed and nudged her shoulder with mine.

"I'm not scowling!"

Iris's cheeks turned a bright pink, causing me to laugh harder.

"You're awfully cute when you're defensive," I stifled even more laughter and dug through my pocket to get the key to my door.

As soon as I had unlocked the door, Iris pushed past me, bringing forth another fit of laughing.

"Shut up!"

She went straight into the bathroom and locked the door.

"Come on now Iris, don't be like that."

I shut the door to my room and began to peel off my tuxedo.

"Micah?" I heard Iris yell from the bathroom, "Where are your towels?"

"Underneath the sink."

I heard the shower turn on & then a muffled "Thank you!"

Just as I was about to remove my pants, someone knocked at my door.

"Prince Micah? I have a present for you from one of the guests that attended your ball."

"Bring it in."

A maid came in with a bottle of wine in hand.

"Thank you, and whom might this be from?"

"Lord Alek and his wife."

"Ahh, I see. You're dismissed."

The maid set the bottle down, bowed to me, and quickly left the room.

After I had finally removed my pants and changed into pajamas, I picked up the wine that the maid had brought.

"Hmm," I looked towards the bathroom. The shower was still running, "One drink couldn't hurt."

With one smooth motion, I popped the cork out of the bottle with my thumb and took a large gulp.

As soon as I swallowed it, my throat and mouth felt like they were one fire and I began to cough violently.

"What the hell is this?"

The world around me began to grown dim and I could feel myself start to sway and fall.

Right before everything went completely black, I could hear Iris scream and Daphne appeared in front of me.

"Did you enjoy my present? I didn't want to hurt you Micah darling, but I can't allow that stupid human girl to get between us. Soon, it will be you and I together at last."

I cringed in pain, "No .."

Another of Iris's terrified screams was the only thing I heard before losing consciousness.
