*Micah's POV*

Mate, I've finally found my mate! But .. she's human ..

I stood outside the door to my father's study and debated on whether or not to tell him that I had found my mate .. and that's she's a human ..

I mean, it can't be that bad right? At least she isn't a werewolf or some other vile creature.

I cringed at the though of being mated to a werewolf.

Eww, that'd be revolting.

Taking a deep breath, I reassured myself. I lightly knocked on the door and waited for a response.

"Come in," my father's deep, authoritative voice sounded from the other side.

I reached a shaky hand out and opened the door. Quickly stepping into the room, I shut it behind me.

My father raised his crimson eyes from his work, eyeing me curiously.

"Yes, may I help you son?" He set down the pen he had been writing with and folded his hands together neatly.

Better choose my words wisely.

"I, well, I have some news to share with you ; and mom as well when she returns." I looked away from his intense gaze and shift uneasily in place.

"And that would be?" He turned his chair to face me, crossing  one leg over the other.

I'm gonna be dead ..

I took a shaky breath & spoke, "I, uh, finally found my mate .." I hesitantly lifted my eyes to take in his reaction.

A large smile instantaneously took up his face, "That's wonderful son! About time, if I do say so myself. When did you find her?"

Time to ruin the moment ..

"Last night, but .." I, once again, averted my eyes and began fidgeting.

"But what?" I could feel my fathers eyes boring holes through me.

"She's a human .." I mentally prepared myself for the explosion that was about to take place.

Instead, a chorus of laughter rang out from my father, causing me to swiftly snap my head up, and in his direction.

"Is that all? A human I can handle, if she were a werewolf on the other hand, we'd have a mighty conflict to deal with. Did you seriously expect me to be angry though?"

My father wiped away the tears that had accumulated from him laughing so hard.

I nodded in embarrassment and felt my face take on some color.

"Micah, having a human as a mate is no big deal. What do you think your mother was before I met her?"

"Mom was a human?" My jaw dropped a little, "I assumed she had always been a vampire."

News to me .. I probably just made myself look like an idiot.

My father shook his head, "Nope. I met her about 1,200 years back and turned her after I told her that she was my mate. Now, was that all? I'm in the middle of dealing with some important paperwork." He gestured to the papers strewn across his desk.

"Yeah, that's all." I exhaled in relief and turned to leave.

"Well, I know your mother will be overjoyed. That reminds me, maybe we can meet her once you've told her everything?"

I swallowed hard and shuddered at the thought of me telling her I wasn't human, let alone that she's my mate.

"Yeah dad, sounds good."

No, sounds like I'm planning my own funeral.

"Good, now begone before I break out the holy water." My father grinned, held his hands up, and made a shooing motion.

I cracked a grin myself and opened the door to leave, "I could say the same to you old man."

I shut the door behind me and heard my dad's rumbling laughter echo through the room again.

Well, that went better than expected. Now I gotta figure out how to tell Iris that I'm a vampire & that she's my mate ..
