38) Mishaan ki Pari tantrik hai
'Mishti, I know that you're not asleep.' Ruhaan said, from behind her, as she kept her eyes shut, 'Please kuch kha lo. Or, talk to me, atleast.'
He enveloped her in a hug, keeping his head on hers as Mishti felt teary again, 'Mishti, meri toofan mail,' He whispered, trying to ease her, 'I know that Pari's words have hurt you. But...'
Mishti opened her eyes, holding Ruhaan's hands wrapped around her stomach, 'Hurt? Muje kyu hurt hoga,' She said, her voice clearly breaking, 'I'm her half sister right. So, it shouldn't matter to me anyway.' A tear dropped from her eye instantly and then few more followed.
Her tears eased when Ruhaan planted a kiss on her temple, his calm voice ushering her heart to wither it's walls, 'You know she didn't mean that. At all.'
Mishti shook her head, turning to face her husband, 'Never in our entire life, never did we ever use that word. We promised each other, we swore that the fact that our mothers our different will never affect our lives.' Mishti couldn't help but break down, as Ruhaan hugged her, 'So many people have questioned us, our sisterhood, our mothers, yet never did we ever tag our sisterhood with that name. Toh how could she, Ruhaan?' She sobbed, holding his t-shirt, 'How could she just so easily say that we're half sisters! That I'm Mauli's daughter and she is Nandini's.'
Ruhaan let her cry her heart out, knowing that Mishti and Pari both needed to let down their guards and open up, 'You saw right, how she so was so unaffected by calling me her half-sister! And,' She sniffed, wiping her tears, 'And she could tell Mishaan everything, but not me? Two weeks over twenty years!'
She hugged him again, trying to be comforted as Ruhaan kept his chin on her soft hair, holding her and caressing her back, 'How could she, Ruhaan. Or, like Mishaan said, am I the one to blame?' Mishti looked up at Ruhaan with moist eyes, 'Is it my fault? Maybe I just couldn't be the sister Pari wanted me to be. Or I just couldn't read between the lines of my sister's feelings. When we were small she chose Arnav to tell everything but not me, and now, she chose Mishaan over me again. This all brings us to the fact that I failed to be a good sister to her.'
'Mishti, please,' Ruhaan spoke, trying to not get emotional with his wife, 'Stop blaming yourself,'
'Nahi, Ruhaan,' She cut him off, shaking her head, 'It was me. All along. I was so preoccupied in being perfect, in being the elder sister with responsibilities that I just failed to see Pari growing apart.' She sat up, scoffing, 'I couldn't see Pari being in love for the first time, Ruhaan, when we were still so close, which sister can't see that!'
Ruhaan sat back too, 'Mishti, Pari loves you a lot. She's just in a mess right now.' He explained, holding Mishti's shoulders, 'You heard her harsh words, but I saw her crushed face when she said that you're half-sisters.' He cupped her face, 'And then, it's a known fact that sometimes strangers are easier to talk to than family. It's an easy escape.'
'But kyu? Why couldn't Pari talk to me about her insecurities, her past! Why him?'
Ruhaan tsked, 'You're not upset on the fact that Pari told her everything, her secrets to Mishaan, you're upset that she told him and not you. That you think she chose someone else over you.' He wiped her tears, 'Aisa nahi hai. Pari will never choose anyone over you, Mishti. Never.'
Mishti shook her head, 'But she did tell him everything right. Jisse jaanne ka haq muje tha!'
'Mishti, I don't understand how to tell you this,' He said, sighing, 'But it's high time that you all understand, including Pari, that everyone here is to be blamed. Firstly, daadi, because she kept Pari's mother a taboo, fearful that you may react a differently with Pari on seeing Nandini's picture. That was what planted a seed in Pari's heart of being unworthy.
