daehyun was pacing outside of the practice room, his phone tightly grasped in his right hand as his left hand frantically raked through his hair. it's not hard to tell that the boy was feeling stressed, the way his body screamed anxiety, and how the squeak of his shoes begged him to stop moving.

his phone call with meiling was short but the information he was given was time-sensitive. he was stuck on what to do, only knowing that he had to leave.

daehyun rushed back into the practice room, interrupting the conversations happening when they noticed his frantic state.

"are you okay, daehyun?" doyoung approached the boy who went straight for his backpack.

"i have to go. i'm sorry, but it's important. i'll text you later," he turned to the other members and nodded at them, "it was nice meeting all of you."

without another word, daehyun was gone. he rushed out of the building and started running to meiling's apartment. he ignored the burning in his legs, internally cursing at himself for not getting someone to drive him.

turning the last corner and running into the building, he rushed past the elevator and took the steps two at a time. he made it to the third floor, then the fourth door on the right. he didn't knock and let himself in, knowing that she unlocked the door for him after their call.

"mei!"

a girl not much shorter than daehyun ran out from one of the bedrooms and tackled him in a hug. her dark hair hung down the sides of her face and hid the tears that cascaded down her cheeks. he could tell she was still crying by the way her shoulders shook and her body trembled in his arms.

"meiling, it's going to be okay." he ran his hands gently through her hair to comfort her.

"what if he finds me? he knows i'm in the city because i wouldn't be too far from you."

daehyun let out a barely audible sigh and placed a kiss on meiling's head, "i'll protect you. as long as i'm here, he won't touch you."

"promise?"

"i promise."

after calming the girl down and taking her out for lunch, daehyun returned to his apartment and threw himself on his couch.
