started: so...
it'd been a few days since he's last seen meiling. he texted her every day to make sure she was okay and safe, but he couldn't help the overbearing worry from eating him up on the inside. he tried to hide it as best he could from minjun because he couldn't let anyone know about it.
"daehyun! your friends are here!"
with furrowed brows, the brunet left the peacefulness of his room to join minjun at the front door. he stopped in his tracks when he saw who was standing there.
"what are you guys doing here?"
doyoung smiled at him. "you've been stuck in your house for days and we finally have some time off. we're taking you out."
daehyun smiled, his eyes raking over doyoung, johnny, mark, and yuta. "just let me get dressed."
the five boys decided to go out to eat before they did anything else. they let daehyun choose where they went, the boy deciding on a cozy cafe two blocks away from his apartment.
they sat at a round table with daehyun sat between doyoung and yuta.
"i listened to your song yesterday. you're a really great performer and your voice is stunning." yuta hesitantly complimented the younger boy.
daehyun grinned at the japanese boy, "thank you, yuta."
"oh god," doyoung whispered.
"what?" mark's voice was enough to draw everyone's attention to doyoung.
"i can already imagine daehyun screaming at me over the phone later tonight because of this."
"why?"
daehyun's cheeks tinted pink involuntarily. he looked over at doyoung and shook his head.
doyoung ignored him, "yuta is one of his favorite nct members and he just complimented him."
"aw, i'm one of your favorites?" yuta's smile was enough to make daehyun smile back.
"of course, i feel like you're one of the underrated members. your stage presence is insane and your voice is so pretty." daehyun gushed, not able to stop himself from talking.
johnny and doyoung made eye contact and smirked at each other.
"oh, jaehyun needs me and doyoung," johnny started the excuse.
"and taeyong is looking for mark," doyoung added.
"he is?" mark asked, clueless as to what the two older boys were doing.
they both nodded while yuta and daehyun stared between them. doyoung turned to yuta with a hopeful expression.
"do you think you can stay with dae?"
yuta nodded at them while daehyun shook his head.
"i'll be okay-"
"no, i'm not letting you spend today alone. you and yuta can find something to do, right?" doyoung pushed, not taking no for an answer.
daehyun nodded his head, slightly intimidated by his best friend. "sure, if yuta's okay with spending the day with me."
yuta grinned at the younger boy. "let's go, i already know what we can do."

daehyun pouted as the claw machine failed to pick up the bear he wanted.
see, yuta decided to take the boy to an arcade that he knew about. he'd been dying to go for a while now and finally got the chance, wanting to share it with daehyun as well.
yuta let a soft smile cross his lips as he stepped up and gently pushed daehyun to the side. he took the last turn of the machine and went for the bear that caught the brunet's eye.
daehyun gasped when yuta successfully grabbed the bear and the machine dropped it in the hole for them to retrieve it. yuta took the bear out and passed it to daehyun.
"here," the smile never left his face, only widening when he saw how in awe the other boy was.
daehyun grinned and grabbed the bear from his outstretched hands, hugging it to his chest as he looked at yuta.
"thank you!" he laughed and hugged the older boy, surprising him but getting a hug in return.
they stayed in the arcade and played more games, daehyun proving that he was better at basketball while yuta insisted that he went easy on him.
"you went easy on me?" daehyun smiled amusedly, "then maybe we should have a rematch."
yuta nodded, "you're on."
yuta still lost to daehyun.
