Chapter 22: The Alpha

The night was long and  endless. We took turns patrolling the area to make sure there was no  threat. At some point we were all shocked when Leah arrived. It was  around sunrise, and Jacob had been sleeping. I had not yet slept,  knowing when I did I would phase back involuntarily. I really didn't  want to sleep naked in the woods...

When Leah arrived, Seth had  picked up the wolf scent and heard her approaching. He had not figured  out it was her though and alerted Jacob and the Cullens with a howl.  Once we realized it was Leah, and she started communicating with us as  she became part of our pack, we all calmed down. I ran back home and let  Edward know it was a false alarm and that Seth's sister had joined us. I  also informed him that Leah said the pack would most likely not attack,  but that we would keep our guard up.

He was relieved to hear  this. He also made me give a message to Jacob to come home and grab a  bag of food to take out to the others. Jacob ordered Seth and Leah to  keep patrolling as he headed back. We were all hungry. I realized though  that I had no clothes. I wondered if eating human food in my wolf form  would be okay. There was no way I was going back into my other form. I  was enjoying not feeling the thirst I had started to feel before coming  back from my cabin prison.

Just as I turned to leave, Edward snapped, "Stop!"

My  eyes widened. Edward heard my thoughts. Crap! I tried to keep walking,  but I staggered as if my body wanted to also alert Edward I was growing  weak. He noticed my stagger and appeared in my path. "Hannah. Stop."

I whined.

"Jasper... Em... Take Hannah hunting. Stay close."

My brothers came out of the house. I protested. I'm fine. Just give Jacob the human food. That should be okay for now.

Edward narrowed his eyes. "Hannah. You need blood. Your eyes are turning dark again in your wolf form. It's been too long."

I shook my head. I don't want to feed right now. Besides, you all need to be near Bella in case something happens. Don't worry about me.

Edward  turned stern. "Bella is just as important as you. If you don't feed you  know what will happen. Do you want a repeat of July?"

I cringed.

My twin brother clearly didn't. Hannah! Go feed! That's an order!

I let out a huff as the Alpha order took over, and then muttered in my head, Could you at least bring me clothes?

Edward  disappeared to rummage in my bedroom upstairs that I hadn't been in for  a week now. I honestly missed my room. He was back a moment later and  handed the shirt and jeans to me. I took them in my mouth and ran a  little ways from the house to turn back into my other form and not be  near Bella's scent.

Wow... And I thought one brother was a pain, Leah muttered.

Yeah... welcome to my life, I muttered back.

Seth argued, This is important, Hannah. You also need to sleep too. You were up all night like me.

Leah snickered. Geez... You boys really need to give the girl some space.

Seth  shot an image of my crazed state back in July when I attacked him over  to Leah. I stopped heading into the woods and whined. The image was a  memory I hated.

Jasper sensed my distress. He stepped over and placed a hand on my shoulder with concern.

Oops... Sorry, Han... Seth thought. Just hit me...
