It was every man for himself. I carried my bag and helped Julia with her mattress."Did you guys even hear the bell!?" I asked as I run towards the classroom with the others. It was all adrenaline. Summer didn't get to finish her lunch because she was staring at a distance, but she packed it anyway.
"I don't know! Anthony was playing his music very loud." Summer answered in panic.
All of us began running to the shortcut. It was full of old and rusty parts. "Oh so it's my fault now is it? The phone already died before you could even eat." Anthony protested.
"Well yeah, duh!" Julia said in a serious tone.
We all panted like thirsty puppies in the middle of the desert. Though I may be the first to run, I was so tired of running and unfortunately, I was dead last. "Hey Guys! I'm still catching my breath!"
I am seriously having regrets on choosing that place. We might as well stick to the cafeteria, which is the nearest place to have our lunch and also the most appropriate one to eat.
Julia went back for me and took the water bottle from my bag and opened it up for me to drink. I saw her sweat falling from her forehead. I remember Julia. I remember our backstory. We met because of her kindness. She would help me with my problems and solve it with the easiest way possible. I used to tease her a lot but I could see her unhappy mood. I would feel pity around her.
"Don't regret about our hangout place, We actually had great memories with it." She said as if she was reading my thoughts. I nodded at her and continued running alongside Julia. I then realized how wide the school is. It's like twice the size of our football field.
At last! We finally reached the hallway. Luckily, our room is just 2 rooms next to it. We walked instead to keep the mood low.
We were so nervous and sweaty. We cleaned and organized ourselves as we open the door.
It was locked.
Anthony looked at the top window. " It's empty." There were no signs of any human species. "What the heck does this mean!?" I said in deep anger. I asked the others, "Where are we gonna go now?"
"Maybe they're in the library." Julia suggested.
"Or in the Laboratory." Summer added.
We split up to find the rest of the class either in the library or the lab. This totally feels like a Mission Impossible thing. Julia, Anthony and I went to the Library while Justin and Summer looked in the Lab.
We made it to the Library. It sounded like there were people in it. A lot.
"It's quite loud inside. What ever happened to observe silence?" There were no windows around.
"Urghh!" I screeched in silence as I forced the knob to open. Okay fine, I don't work out a lot. But that doesn't mean I'm weak. "It's locked". Julia said.
"GLADLY..." I said in relief.
"What?" Julia asked curiously.
"Uhmm... Hey Anthony! Help me open this dumb door."
"Sure, I'll try." Anthony and I almost broke the door just trying to open the damn thing.
"It's no use, I think they just won't let us in or something". Julia tried knocking. Nobody heard it. But she insisted knocking though. At last the librarian opened the door. We saw children running around watching a movie. It was a really old film to be honest. No wonder not a kid watched it. We apologized to the librarian for the interruption. Then walked our way back to the room.
"I don't get it. Where are they?"
"Wait a minute." Julia stopped walking. "Anthony what time is it?" she suddenly asked.
"Why?"
"Just tell me!"
Anthony reached for his watch in his sling bag and said:"It's 1:45."
"Why is your watch in your sling bag? You do realize you're supposed to wear it on your wrist."
"It doesn't fit me." He replied.
"Oh." I said slowly.
Well that was awkward.
Julia gasped. "Oh no."
"It's okay Julia, at least I could still look at the time." Anthony said
"No! Not that!" She said
"What is it?" I quickly asked which made me nervous somehow.
"Connor, by now what do you think the subject is?"
"That would be...
Science Class...
Then that means...
...they're in...
...the LAB!"
* * * * * * * *
"Guys! What the heck!" I shouted as we scrambled in the lab.
" Ahem, you are late again Mr. Davis and Ms. Anderson. I expected better from you Mr. Jeswald," Mrs. Dianne said strictly as we sat down on our table at the back. A note was passed to me that said: "Sorry, Ma'am won't let us out and she wanted you to find us yourselves." I looked at Summer and raised my eyebrows and nodded at her.
" Okay class. By next week you will be doing an activity with your assigned partner." Julia got Pierce as her partner. Anthony and Michael were partnered up, which is quite unfair since they're the smartest guys in class. Summer and Lucinda, and Justin with Stacey. For me? It's quite awkward to have a partner that I have a crush on... Me and Amelia.
RING!
Mrs. Dianne handed me the keys to the room. Ever since elementary school, she trusted me with the work I do. It's recess and I walked to our classroom alone. I can't believe we only spent half the class without getting punished. That was a relief.
I sat down in my desk trying to relax in peace and quiet. I overheard Pierce trying to flirt and at the same time annoying Amelia. "Stop it okay? Just... leave me alone!"
I really wanted to help her out but I'm much more of a coward to face an athlete and be some sort of a hero. It was really not my thing besides it was actually funny watching their argument which never bothered me. They are totally incompatible from each other.
I smacked my face on my table trying to think on what to do just to kill my boredom. But as soon as I did I realized Pierce was the only one who left the room and nobody else was in the room except...
Hey Connor! I suddenly woke up in existence.
" What are you doing?" Summer asked.
"How... How did you get here?" I asked wondering how the hell she got in without using that...door. That door is nothing but bad luck.
"I entered through the window. Pierce's mutton heads dared me to go through it for 3 bucks." answered in joy.
"What!?... Why!?"
"To give Pierce's stupid mail to Amelia."
"So you're a mailman now? Okay..." I replied.
"Don't be so Jelly bro." She said as she saw the reaction in my face.
"I am so not Jelly. Cause I'm peanut butter."
"Ha...ha... It's not that funny you know. You're really bad at jokes."
"OH! CONNOR IS-!" said as loud as possible but it's a good thing I closed her mouth before she could use...the word.
It got more awkward when Amelia was staring the WHOLE TIME.
"Summer!" I said angrily as I closed my teeth together and awkwardly smiling at a giggling cute girl, Amelia.
