"I seriously don't know what we're going to do with you!" My stepmother screeched as she paced back and forth on the concrete floor. Her black colored heels clicking as she moved. My dad sat off to the side as I stood in front of the couch.
"Why do you keep these things Sapphire!?" She yelled at me I snapped my head up and glared straight at her. This seemed to have gotten her even angrier. "Don't you dare glare at me! You're the one defying the Queen!" She screamed while stepping up to stand in front of me. I let out a scoff at that statement.
"Maya," my fathers voice broke the silence that followed after her yelling. I kept up my glare and then crossed my arms oved my chest.
"What Kane?!" She snapped at him. My father looked taken aback at his wife's reaction. She then turned back to me and shook her head. "We're sending you away, go pack," she spat before turning and stormed out of the living room.
I immediately turned to look at my dad with a questioning look written on my face. He let out a sigh and then nodded at me.
"Go pack Sapphire, you leave in an hour," he muttered before leaving the room himself. With a sigh of my own, I turned and walked up the stairs and into my bedroom.
I pulled out my duffle bag and began to place books, clothes, and other things I would want with me. I opened my draw and found a small golden locket in the shape of a heart. A small smile gre on my lips as I looked at it.
'I miss you mom,' I thought to myself before clasping the necklace around my neck and going back to packing. I picked up some of my favorite pictures of my family and one of me and my friends from school.
'I wonder how Katie would feel about this?' I thought as I finished putting my things in my bag. 'She doesn't even know, will anyone tell her that I'm leaving?' With a shake of my head, I decided that I would tell her. I glanced at the clock and then nodded to myself.
"Twenty minutes left, I can make it," I muttered and then turned to my bedroom window. I opened the latch and climbed out onto the fire escape. I carefully and quietly scrambled down the ladder and onto the ground.
I rushed over to Katie's townhouse and climbed over her backyard fence. Plopping onto the ground in her backyard, I stood up and brushed off the dirt before turning towards her back door.
Stepping up to it, I took a deep breath and the knocked sharply. After a few minutes, I heard shuffling coming from behind the door.
"Sapphire?" I heard Katie ask me as she opened the door a little bit. I gave her a small smile before she opened the door wider. "What's up?" She asked me as she leaned against the door frame.
"Can I come in for a bit?" I asked her in a soft tone of voice. Katie gave me a confused look but nodded at me anyways. She took a step back and gestured for me to enter her townhouse.
I walked pass her and into the back mudroom. As Katie came up behind me, she kicked off her shoes and I followed suit. Then we walked through her hallways, up the stairs, and into her bedroom. I sat down on her desk chair across frim where she was sitting on her bed.
"So what's going on?" She asked me again as I just stared at my lap. I looked up at her to see worry in her eyes as she watched me. I took a deep breath before letting out a soft sigh.
"I'm being sent away. I don't know where though," I mumbled out while stoll staring at my hands in my lap. After a minute I looked up at Katie to see her eyes wide and a look of sadness written on her face.
"When do you leave?" I heard her ask me after a few moments of silence. I took a glance at the clock on her wall before turning my head to look back at her.
"In seven minutes," I whispered as I watched Katie launch herself off of her bed and tackle me in a hug. We stayed like that for a while, staying silent the whole time. Then, I finally had to push her away.
"I gotta go," I said as Katie gave a slight nod. I noticed that she had tears streaming down her cheeks as she pulled away and walked over to her door. "I'll try to see if I can write, okay?" I said as tears began to stream down my own cheeks. We gave each other small smiles before walking back down the stairs.
I slipped my shoes on and then gave Katie one last hug before leaving her house and heading back over to mine. I wiped the tears from my eyes as I moved to climb back up the fire escape and head back into my bedroom.
The clock chimed to signal that my hour was up just as I closed my window. With a sigh I grabbed my duffle bag and headed out of my room and down the stairs.
Walking into the living room I see my dad and stepmother standing next to a guard dressed in all black. He gave me a cold stare while standing still with his arms crossed over his chest.
I walked over to my dad and gave him a hug before pulling away. He gave me a sad smile before leaning in to whisper into my ear.
"I love so much Sapphire," he said before we pulled away and I moved to my stepmother. I gave her a harsh glare and then turned to walk away, but she grabbed my wrist and glared back at me.
"Behave," she hissed before letting go. With a final glare, I felt my arm being yanked and turned my head to see the guard holding my arm in a vice grip. Then he gave a nod to my parents before practically dragging me out of my home and out towards a black van with tinted windows.
Another guard stood at the back door. He opened the doors and then tossed me inside. I felt a metal cuff being attached to my ankle and saw that I was now chained to the floor of the van.
'This definitely isn't going to be a pleasant trip,' I thought to myself as I felt the van began to rumble amd move and off we went to who knows where. With a sigh I leaned back against the wall of the van and fell asleep to the loud rumble.

Opening my eyes I blinked a few times as I took in the bright sunlight. Though I ended up scrunching my face up in confusion.
'I was just chained in a van,' I muttered inside of my head as I slowly sat up and looked around at my new surroundings. With even more confusion I realized that I was laying on a rocky cliff with no cuff and chain locked around my ankle.
"Where the heck am I?!" I screamed as I quickly sat up the rest of the way. I scrambled to my feet and stumbled down towards the cliff's edge. As I reached I saw that there was steam coming from over the edge of the cliff.
Looking over the edge, I saw boiling red liquid moving in waves deep below me. My eyes widened as I took the sight in front of me.
"You are almost ready," I heard a female's voice call out from somewhere within the crater. She sounded familiar, but I just couldn't think of where I could know her from. "You will remember me soon enough, my darling Sapphire," I heard her say with a chuckle. This just made me even more confusion.
Suddenly a burst of hot air erupted from the hole and burning pieces of rock came with it. I took a quick glance down into the crater and saw that the red liquid was rising upwards - fast With a start I stumbled backwards and just as the liquid shot towards the sky I let out a loud, ear splitting scream and then everything went black.
