'Oh god I can't believe I made that promise,' I yelled at myself internally as I listened to my mother talk about her work in The Capital's Health center. She was so annoying and yet I was stuck here with her. She was insufferable and I hated her passionately. Her words were very prideful and she was such a show off.

"Carmen, come kiss your mother goodbye," the high voice of the very same woman said from over to my left side. With a sigh I put on a fake smile and gave her a quick peck on the cheek before lowering myself back on my feet. I felt a rush of relief at the fact that she would be leaving very soon.

Suddenly a guard came banging through the doors of my house with a pair of handcuffs in his hands. We all look startled as his eyes seemed to scan the room looking for someone. Then his eyes landed on me and he immediately stomped over and restrained me.

"What is happening sir?" my younger sister asked the guard as he finished securing my hands behind my back. I was in shock. Wondering just what had I done to receive this treatment. The guard glared at my sister before shoving me out of my house and down the streets.

"sir, what did I do wrong?" I asked the guard when I finally worked up the courage to speak again. He just gave a grunt and then shook his head.

"After hour's visit to the library," the man said gruffly before dragging me into a van and chaining my to the floor by an ankle cuff. I heard sobbing coming form behind me. Turning around I noticed two others with me in the van. The van began to rumble and then began moving. After a while, a buzz sounded from the speakers and a voice spoke.

"You all have been convicted of defiance and will be sent to The Camp in The Edge before your sentencing," the voice said. It seemed to be feminine and sounded stern. After she spoke all lights turned off in the van and we were left in both silence and darkness.

I tucked my head into my lap and began to let my thoughts overtake me.

'What did I do in defiance?' I wondered to myself before letting my eyes fall close and sleep overtook me calmly and slowly.
-
White fluffy wisps were floating around me as I hovered in an immense sea of blue. I could feel something blowing on my skin and messing my hair up, yet I couldn't see it. I was mesmerized at the world I was floating in. Then, I began to move and the air pushed me along swirling me around and taking me higher and higher before dipping lower once more.

I felt at peace in this place. Calmness soothed any worries I may have had before entering and I found that I enjoyed the cool air blowing all around me.

I felt like I never wanted to leave this wonderfully peaceful place. A soft male chuckle sounded throughout the world around me, causing my eyes to snap open and widen with fear.

"W-Who's there?!" I managed to stutter out as my eyes shot around to look for the source of the voice. I felt fear well up inside of me as I frantically searched my surroundings and finding nothing that was different.

"Hush Carmen, I mean you no harm," the voice spoke to me calmly. "I'm merely someone who knows you," he added as my fear began to subside. Then, curiosity took over me as I scrunched my eyes in confusion.

"How do you know me?" I asked him before I felt the air began to swirl around me once again. This time pulling downwards towards where I suspect the ground is.

"All in due time, Carmen."
-
My eyes shot open as I heard the sound of the doors to the back of the van being flung open. Thundering footsteps sounded as we were harshly unchained and grabbed from the van before being handcuffed and leg shackled.

The guards dragged us through The Camp's entry hall and into a large stone building with tall iron gates in front of it. We stopped in front of the gates and the guard at the front of us swiped a card key and we entered the building.

"This is where you'll stay the night to get assessed and then placed," a female's voice called out as the guards pushed us front and center below a large balcony. The female was wearing a black colored pantsuit and held a baton in her hand.

"You will behave while you're here and you will accept whatever we decide to do with you," she said sharply before leaning against the balcony's railing. "Guards, lead them to their cells," she said harshly before turning to walk away.

A guard grabbed my shoulder and began to lead me towards a long stone staircase along with the other two. We made our way through the stone tunnel before coming to a stop at an old iron door with iron bars on the only thin window.

The guard produced a key and inserted it into the lock. Pushing the door open with one hand, he guided me inside before stepping in with me. The guard unlocked my handcuffs and unchained my feet from each other before chaining my ankle to the wall.

He left without saying a single word to me. All he gave was a cold stare as the iron door shut and locked me inside. I slowly moved over to the cot and sat down on it.

I dropped my head into my lap and began to sob. The noise only echoed off the walls, but I suspected never left my cell

'How could have this happened to me,' I thought to myself as I let myself lay down on the cot. I felt my eyes droop and I fell asleep once again. This time I was sleeping dreamlessly.
-
A loud alarm blared throughout the compound as I heard the tell tale thundering footsteps of the guards making their way through the stone tunnels to the cells.

Suddenly the door to my cell was flung open and I was cuffed and shackled again before being led back down the halls.

'This is getting annoying,' I thought as I took a step up the last stair. The guard who guided me then shoved me towards another section of the building before stopping in front of a large oak door. He shoved me inside before shutting the door with a click as the door locked.

A female's voice cleared her throat which caught my attention. Turning around I saw another young woman wearing a black pantsuit with a baton in her hand. She stared at me coldly before gesturing to the seat in front of her desk.

"Sit," was all she said before walking her baton against her desk to warn me about what could happen should I fail to obey her command. I quickly sat down in the chair as fast as I could in my restraints.

"Now, Carmen," the woman said in a sickly sweet voice with a cold stare directed at me. She gave her baton a quick rap at her desk before giving me a sick smile. "You do know why you're here correct?" She asked me with a wicked gleam in her pale eyes.

"Yes ma'am I do," I replied to her with a slight nod before I lowered my head to stare at my cuffed hands sitting in me lap. "I defied a law," I mumbled out softly as I studied my cuff.

"And do you know what defiance can cause?" She asked with after giving another rap on her desk to signal me to look up at her. With wide eyes I stared at her.

"N-No ma'am," I stuttered out as she gave me another wicked smile before leaning forward on her desk to look me right in the eyes.

"Defiance can cause imprisonment," she started before standing up to come over to me. She grasped my chin harshly and lifted it up so I could look her straight in her eyes.

"Or execution."
