A/N - This oneshot is sort of based on/similar to a longer fic I'm working on, so if you like the writing and ideas of this one, you might like it! It's called "Burning Flags and Forests" <3

"You imbecile! Why would you- I can't- you complete idiot!" The vile words were spat from the mouth of Prince Dream.

"I can't believe you just fucking burnt his house. You can't expect forgiveness until you dig through those ashes and tell me that you deserve it! What did George do to you?" He demanded, his voice cracking as he mentioned his boyfriend.

His hands flew at each syllable, emphasizing every word so they hit Tommy like blades. "I thought we could be peaceful, I thought we could push aside our fucking conflicts, but they just seem to follow you, do they not? Goddamnit Tommy, I want peace! Is that so much to ask for?"

The words stung Tommy, but he deserved it. He couldn't get the urges and whispers out of his head, and it he'd known that it could only be a matter of time before something like this happened.

A small tear slipped down the left side of his face and onto his chapped lips. The taste of salt struck for a mere second before he wiped it away. A quite simple gesture that Dream was bound to see.

Tommy's voice was soft and breaking in usual comparison to his piercing tongue otherwise, "I'll s-see myself out. My fath- King Wilbur can contact y-you if you see fit..."

With finality, Dream snapped, "I do. You should hope you're honest with him, because you're damn right that I'll be."

Tommy's light footsteps echoed like horseshoes in the freezing corridors he passed through on his way out of the Empire's grand castle. He'd once admired the incredible place, but now he dreaded seeing its towering spires and whipping flags.

He strode quickly into the nearby forest, where the towering trees obscured him on such a foggy day. With each step, Tommy heard an earthy crunch in the damp, muddy moss.

He eventually reached where he'd tied his horse, Henry, to a post. His nimble fingers flew around the sturdy rope and untied Henry in a split second. He knotted the rope on Henry's saddle.

With that, Tommy heaved and pulled himself gracefully onto Henry's back and they began further into the forest.

A/N - Sorry it was short, but I think my plan for this book moving forward is going to be doing 1-2 shorter (less than 500 words) oneshots between the longer (over a thousand words) ones that I write. It'll help normalize my schedule more and update regularly. As usual I'm always open for requests or suggestions :).
Edit: The music in a lot of these are what I listened to while writing or was inspired by, so it's usually there to set the mood. It doesn't always match up with what the text is. I thought that was worth mentioning as well.
