Chapter 1.
"Kathy? Kat, wake up!" I knew this voice, why wouldn't I pull myself out of this sleep? "Kathy! For God's sake wake up! You're not gonna have time to stretch if you don't get your bottom out of bed, young lady!" Damn. There were times when I loved my dearest mother, but then when it came to waking up for a school day. I wasn't so keen.
"I'm up! I'm up I’m up I’m up already!" I threw back the warm, thick quilt and stretched out my feet, hearing them crack as I pointed and flexed them, making sure that every joint was loosened before I put my worn out feet onto the cold, wooden floor.
I made my way over to my bathroom and splashed my face with cold water; I hated having to be up at the crack of sparrows fart, every morning, just so I could keep myself supple. My passion in life since I was a little girl has been to become a dancer, of what type I wasn't particularly fussed, but being the best was and always has been my goal. After washing my face I changed into my dancing gear, I over stretching after waking up, I just hated having to get up so early. Several minutes into my vigorous morning regime, my mother walked in with a glass if orange and a cup of tea, I slurped at my juice as she watched me rock forward onto the balls of my feet and back.
"Don't forget you’re starting your new school today; choose something nice to wear... I'll see you downstairs in 10 minutes for breakfast." with that she closed the door and I listened to her walk downstairs, her strappy back heels banging on the floor with every step.
I chugged down my tea and headed for the shower, I stood in the warm spray for a while before I heard my mother below up the stairs that my breakfast was nearly ready. I changed for school and towel dried my beautiful straight long blonde hair and pulled a jumper on over my head. I walked downstairs with all my gear for my day ahead and placed it at the door before walking around the corner to greet my family before breakfast.
"Morning Dad" I walked over to him and kissed him on the cheek. "Morning Tinkerbelle" Tinkerbelle was my gorgeous little dog that has always been there for me, she was my 14th birthday present from my Dad.
I sat at the table as mum brought over my plate of boiled eggs and soldiers, followed by bran flakes and muesli. We are breakfast in silence as usual, until mum spoke up about the evenings plans.
"So Lucas you’re at work until nine this evening? Am I correct? And you won’t be back till half past am I correct?" my mum, being a very successful manager to a large fashion magazine firm always spoke to my dad as though he were one of her employees. This was a trait I hoped I wouldn't pick up.
"Yes love, have a good day everyone. See you later Kathy" with that dad got up kissed mum on her cheek as she presented it to him and kissed me on the forehead, he left for his job then.
After brushing my teeth and hair, I walked downstairs and got into the car beside mum to drive to school. I was starting at a new Performing Arts Academy called Trenworth. Truthfully I wasn't nervous; I just wanted to start dancing as soon as I could. Mum and I brushy speak until I got out at the Academy and she wished me luck and drove off. I stood outside for a time, watching the in flood of students getting off buses and out of cars. I walked towards the main reception and waited as a lady spoke to another student.
"Look Darren, there's nothing I can do! Your parents should have contacted the school and told them you wouldn’t be able to make it to the class and now you just have to catch up in your own time. Marcell just doesn't have any free slots to put you in. Please Darren, just get to class I've got other students waiting." the lady gave him a stern look and then returned to her paperwork. As the boy turned away and walked off he glared at me, I'm not usually the type of person to stare but u couldn't help it. Something about his jaw line and cheek bones that complimented his beautiful pearly blue eyes enticed me. I got pulled out of this trance when I heard the lady at reception ask if I needed help.
"Excuse me young lady? Are you okay?" she looked at me with concern in her eyes and smiled.
"Umm... Yes please, I'm new here. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing really." I looked at her with embarrassment; she didn't seem to mind though. Intact she got up from behind her desk and walked over to me. She was wearing a simple black pencil skirt and red tights the matched her red belt, her blouse and heeled shoes were White and she had red lipstick on. She looked like someone who should be working for my mother, not for a Performing Arts academy!
"Aahh yes, you must be Kathy" I shook her outstretched hand. "I'm Cindy, the receptionist. I was expecting you, I'll take you to the student enrolment office just down the hall, she can help you more than I can!" she laughed to herself and opened the door to Jennifer’s office. She looked up as I walked in and smiled.
"Thank you Cindy. Hello Kathy, I'm Jennifer please, take a seat" I sat down in the comfy green modern chairs and started playing with my fingers nervously. "So, I hear you’re quite the dancer? You'll be starting your normal classes today, and you can watch some dance classes but you can't start till tomorrow unfortunately. Have you got your papers with you? She looked at me over her small, black square glasses.
"Oh yes, here they are" I rummaged in my bag and handed her several sheets if paper. "Sorry they are a bit scrunched up" I looked at her, reading my papers, anxiously awaiting approval.
"These all look fine, I have a student who has offered to show you around this morning, she's lovely and very friendly. Her name is Melissa; she also dances but had to rake a break after she had an accident in a show last year. I'll just call through to get her" she picked up the phone in her desk and quickly dialled the number she needed with her beautiful manicured nails. "Hello Cindy, can you send Melissa through please? Thank you!" she hung up and walked over to a large grey filing cabinet, she unlocked it with her one of the keys, on her large set and pulled open the drawer with the label 'Dance Students', she made a new wallet with my name on it and stored my papers in it just as there was a rap on the door and a head popped around the door.
"Jennifer?" a tall slender girl with a pretty oval face and brown hair scraped back into a bun entered the room. She was wearing a leotard with a wrap around Cardigan and tight fitting jazz bottoms with knee high warmers. She was a typical dancer; I could tell just by the way she was carrying herself as she entered the room, graceful and present.
"Hello Melissa, this is Kathy, she's our new dance student, Kathy this is Melissa, and she attends roughly all the same dance and academic classes so get to know each other. Melissa if you could take Miss Kath to her lesson during third period after break, it would be appreciated. Here is your time table Kathy, welcome to Trenworth High Performing Arts Academy!"
