Engraving trust in the heart of our children
It takes a lover to stay true to their words
We say "Be yourself" to one of our daughters
But then point out the perfections of another
Assuring our sons that we love them no matter what
But beat them down when they're not what we expected
If we truly care for one another
Then why is love just so expensive?
Ensuring safety in the streets of our beloved city
But ignore our vows when we hear cries for help
No one told you to make that commitment
You only spoke it to feel better about yourself
We pass the homeless in the street
Afraid to look them in the eyes
But if this were your brother or old friend
I'm sure you'd spare them at least a dime, right?
How can you truly care for your country
When you neglect the people in it?
"Oh say can you see", I can also taste the guilt and embarrassment
Education is the most important, yes?
But at what cost do we deserve it
I see bright futures in all of our children
You're the first to point your finger
But did you at least just once try to help them?
Grown up says, every able child does
I'm sure you know what that means
You are the role models for your own kids
New adult standards is what we now need
