"What's that?" I asked.
"I don't know." He set it on the table and we both stared at it. "My grandma left me the van, and I found this in the back when I was cleaning it out."
The longer I stared at it, the more I felt like it was staring at me.
"Pick it up," he said.
"No."
He chuckled, "Just touch it."
"No!"
"Why?"
I sat up and leaned closer to the crystal spiral. It was ocean blue, wrapped in copper wire, and didn't have a single scratch.
I reached my hand out and felt heat radiating from it.
"Is it hot?" I asked.
He scrunched his face and shook his head, "No."
I hovered my hand around the spiral and soon the heat seemed to coat my hand like a rubber glove.
I took a deep breath, then touched it with one finger.
The hot sensation faded and became a cold, wet scrap of metal.
"It's weird," I said.
"Yeah," Wolf agreed, "Very weird."
I wasn't so mad at him anymore, but I still had a lot to contemplate.
I stood up, "I should go home."
"Let me walk you to the bus stop."
