Just In Time for Christmas

"Lucas, come on. We're going to miss the bus!" One of the boys hollered back to their taller friend.

The group of seven had been out for the day, taking in the city as Christmas settled in. The cold snow that gently dusted the cities buildings. They had been shopping and grabbed some lunch. They were now on their way to catch the bus that would bring them closer to home.

"I'm gonna hang around for a bit. I need to grab a few more things. I'll see you online later tonight" Lucas smiled with a wave before heading down the street in the opposite direction of his friends.

Making his way down a quiet street that led to the shop he was heading to, Lucas admired the lights that were strung up between buildings. He decided to stop into a coffee shop quickly to grab a hot drink in an attempt to keep his hands warm and stop his fingers from dropping off from his hands.

Hot chocolate in hand, Lucas continued to the jewellery shop where he was going to get a gift for his mum and his aunt. Too absorbed in the lights that were beginning to be turned on as the sky darkened to noticed the small boy heading in his direction who was also focused on other things.

"Oh, My, God!" The small boy shouted as he got splashed with hot chocolate, staining his grey hoodie that was already doing a pretty shitty job at keeping warm, the drink that covered him not doing him any favours.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" Lucas apologised, dabbing at the stain with the paper towel he held in his hand.

"No, it's fine. I was a bit distracted as well. I'm just going to have to drop into a shop and grab a jacket or something to keep me warm. To be fair this jumper was a bit pathetic anyway" the boy laughed lightly.

"Let me pay for it. It was my drink that messed that up" Lucas stated, pulling his wallet from his bag and handing the smaller boy the few notes that he had. He smiled awkward;y as he handed the small amount of money to the boy.

"I may be small, but this won't even buy me an arm" The boy laughed, handing the money back, "Besides, I've got it, don't worry. Merry Christmas" He smiled, starting to walk past the tall boy and continue his way into the city centre.

"Wait, just... take this" Lucas shouted back, grabbing the boy's attention as he pulled his arms from his jacket.

"Huh, oh. I can't do that. It's cold and you'll get cold. And it's way too big for me anyway. You're like, almost double my height" The boy chuckled awkwardly. Lucas smiled awkwardly in response, only now noticing quite how big the size difference between them was.

"Please. I'll be fine. I'm quite good at coping with the cold anyway." Lucas shrugged, still holding out the coat. The shorter shrugged and laughed as he pulled the large grey jacket over his shoulders. Despite how it drowned him, it wasn't quite as big as he expected.

"I bet your girlfriend would be jealous right now" the boy smiled, holding the warm fabric close to him as his body warmed up.

"Oh, I, uh. I don't have a girlfriend" Lucas smiled. "What's your name?" Lucas asked.

"Renjun" He smiled back, "And your's" Renjun replied.

"Lucas. Where are you headed?" He asked, hoping that maybe they could talk a little longer, growing fond of the small boy's smile.

"I'm not actually sure" Renjun giggled awkwardly.

"How come?" The taller boy asked, unsure of how one could not know where they are going.
