not all roses

you are a rose that is placed delicately
in my hand
the way your pedals flare out I seem to understand
your structure coated in strength and dignity
your pedals radiate the most perfect blood red
that tempts my fingertips
but the more you love the rose the more you must bear the thorns
plucking away each pedal one by one I notice just how ugly you can become
seeing behind the beauty you portray
is a regretful man
one harsh wind and your laying on the rich land
now tell the sun why you can no longer stand
you will dream of broken butterflies that tore their wings among your thorns
and you'll somehow know the pain they borne
tell the moon the things that broke you
tell the stars the way she beautifully lied
how she filled your cup up by surprise
so the sky can find the root of the wound
and kiss it all the way up
the darkness will hold you and tell you
to cave into the weakness
but remember the sadness and bleakness
the rose is nothing
without the glowing sun
the heavy rain
and the violent past ur made up of
you see the way my pedals reflect
the morning dew
however you don't see how my thorns make others bruise
take the peace with the flaws
just like you did when we were born
show me the planet while we come back to earth
it's not all roses baby but let me show you
just how bad I'll admire you.
