Yoongi felt completely out of place, sitting on what seemed to be an impractical leather couch. As he sat ram rod straight, Yoongi could tell that this was not a couch to sit on, it was more decorative in the pristine house.
He would be more surprised if anyone could comfortably sit on this hard couch for any period of time. His tail barely liked the feel of it, instead opting to have it wrap around himself, hiding up his hoodie and around his own waist. His keen eyes scanning around him, catching different blacks and whites and greys through what he could see in the house.
Looking towards Emersyn, Yoongi couldn't help but wonder how a women as open and warm as her, grew up in such a miserable looking house.
"Emersyn," her mother walked into the room, hand out like she was expecting Emersyn to hand her something. "Now."
Emersyn looked confusingly at her mothers hand before something seemed to click in her head, what her mother was asking was something she'd never do. Crossing her legs and arms, Emersyn seemed set in not giving her mother whatever it was she wanted, no matter how much she asked.
"This is not some game for you to play, Emersyn. I want it now."
"No." Emersyn looked her mother in the eye, she'd already lost so much, she wasn't about to lose anything else. "He is mine and neither of you are getting your hands on him."
"Sweetheart, just leave her be." Emersyn's father smiled at the two sitting across from him, seeing how Yoongi seemed to lean behind Emersyn almost protectively. "She's old enough to take care of herself."
"But she is not in the right mind to be taking care of someone else." Her mothers resolve seemed to be just as stubborn as the child she bore.
"I'm not some mindless child." Emersyn felt the vibrations of her phone from her bag that sat between her and Yoongi. "Surprisingly, a few mistakes from my past isn't a defining factor of who I am now." Emersyn opened her bag, finding her phone to turn off the alarm first before taking out her medication and water. "Neither is who raised me."
Yoongi felt the tension as he watched Emersyn take some form of medication, he could see that her mother seemed to panic a little before breathing easier when she took them. He would never openly say it, but Yoongi could smell the effects of the medication in her body. Her once nervous and almost sickly scent seemed to change, slowly, calmly into something more... Emersyn, at least the Emersyn he had meet.
It was her natural scent that Yoongi could smell and it was intoxicating to him, it was soothing and a presence Yoongi could happily live with. Especially when comparing to her parents, Yoongi would rather have let them send him to a breeding farm then to stay here with Emersyn's parents. He couldn't place it, but the scent her father gave off made him completely untrustworthy, it was bitter and stale and something not kind at all. Nor was the childlike gleam in his eyes anything more than scary, there wasn't any trust in that man, there was nothing good surrounding him.
"We are only trying to look out for you." Emersyn's mothers eyes seemed to shift to Yoongi, like she was trying to calculate something.
"You only want to control me." Emersyn had officially reached her limit being in her parents presence, standing with a look at Yoongi to follow her. "When you've finally figured out that I won't be controlled, then you can be in our lives."
"Emersyn, you can't speak to your mother like that." Her father decided to get involved, Yoongi almost standing in front of Emersyn to protect her, only to stop when Emersyn's hand wrapped around his wrist. "We are still your parents."
"So now you want to be my dad?" Emersyn seemed to give an almost disbelief laugh as she stared her own father down. "So, tell me, Dad... Is it really my best interest in mind that your thinking about?"
With the heavily weighted question left hanging in the air, Emersyn let go of Yoongi's wrist, only to take hold of Yoongi's hand and walk back out the door they had only just came in. Getting back into the car they had came in, she told their driver her address and off they were, driving away from a once happy place that had turned dark. Driving down the long winding driveway that Emersyn had promised herself she would never come back to, at least not now.
"Sorry about that." Emersyn's soft voice broke through the silence, causing Yoongi's head to snap up to look at her. "I was really hoping you wouldn't have had to deal with them like that."
"It's okay. Everyone's family is kinda crazy." Yoongi couldn't help but think about the family he had made, his brothers.
"Yeah, I guess your right." Emersyn finally gave Yoongi a genuine smile. "So, that whole mess aside... are you excited to be going home?"
Yoongi couldn't stop the chuckle that built in his chest as he shook his head, seeing how Emersyn switched so naturally into making sure he was comfortable with his new surroundings and new life. He couldn't help but wonder who had truly raised Emersyn into the women he was lucky to know right now, after seeing her parents in action, they couldn't have been the people to raise such a woman.
"I am excited to see your home."
"Our home." Emersyn was quick to correct him, placing her hand on top of his own. "This is our home. It is as much yours as much as it is mine."
Yoongi could only nod with a smile, he couldn't allow himself to get too comfortable in a place where people didn't want him, especially with the negative effects that could take place if he truly wasn't needed. One minute he could be happy and comfortable, the next, Emersyn's parents could have him sent back to live out the rest of his days in a shelter. Or worse, they actually send him to a breeding farm and the small peace he had known in his life for the few days would be completely gone.
"There it is." Yoongi looked back up to catch Emersyn's eyes as she smiled. "Welcome home, Yoongi."
Yoongi took another few seconds, taking in the peaceful look on Emersyn's face before turning around to look out of his window. As the driver came to a stop, Yoongi was greeted by a much more homely house, a home that seemed to welcome him as much as the woman next to him had. The still rather large house sat comfortably surrounded by trees and flowers and from what Yoongi could hear there was a body of water close by.
Now standing at the old front door, his suitcase next to him, his backpack thrown over his shoulder, the hair on the back of his next had finally calmed down. This was a home.
A home.
His home.
And he would do everything to protect his newfound home, protect a peace he hadn't ever known in his life. To protect the woman that happily called him her family, that hopefully he could in return call his family.
As he followed Emersyn through the door and into what will undoubtedly be a new adventure, helping to carry her bags, he could finally say he could breathe easier than he ever had to in his life.
