"Kelsey?" Cassie grasped her phone tighter, blinking furiously as headlines of the passing car reflected from the mirror. She rolled onto her right side, placing bare feet on the dark brown rug, curling hand around the edge of her beat-up, few years old iPhone. Her mind was still dizzy from sleep and she had a hard time comprehending what's happening.
"You picked up,-" a tone above whisper responds from the other side of the line, she quickened breathing raising familiar impulse of longing to Cassie. "-I'm just surprised... sorry."
Cassie pushed her body further from the bed, placing an elbow on the knee, she rested head on the palm. Mouth dry, Cassie managed to clear throat, mutter a dry. "I'm surprised myself... it's been... long."
There was a pregnant pause. The one what drove Cassie on the edge of the bad. She couldn't believe she's actually giving herself into the weakness. She pushed herself, a print, oversized t-shirt shifting just below her butt.
Kelsey stammered. "Yeah... I, um... sorry."
Cassie bit inside the cheek, holding back the anger what is trying to build up. It wasn't her. This bitter, sad person what is angry on the whole world. It wasn't her. It wasn't her for a long time.
Going through the complicated, but still equally rewarding childhood, Cassie learned that bitterness won't bring you to places. If she wants to achieve anything, she gets to show kindness. That's why she hated herself around Kelsey fro past several months.
She sighed, weakly mumbling. "Kelsey, please,-"
"-no, Cassie... fuck,-" Kelsey cut in, words steady, completely un-matching the shaky tone. "-You've been avoiding having normal, adult conversation with me. Let me apologies, please."
Cassie's hand went to her hair while another held a thin phone. She padded towards the window, looking down at the street what is dying in emptiness. Wet concrete, muddy puddles matched Cassie's mood.
She sighed tiredly. "And what then? Forgive you? Forget you? That's not how things — life works. You do a fucking mistake and own it."
There was rustling on the other side of the phone — something dropping. Cassie closed mouth, ready to ask if everything alright because she cares. She still fucking cares for Kelsey.
However, Kelsey's plead broke down the silence just in time. "Please. One conversation, Cassie... I'm begging you."
"Okay, fine. Meet me in the hour at the park we used to go."
"But,-"
