Chapter 18: We're in the Endgame Now (Part 1)

"Guys...I need to tell you something..."
"What?"

"Ben's gone."
"We already knew that-"
"Gone gone."
"W-what...."

Klaus and I lay on a bed sadly as we stare at the ceiling. I never even got to say goodbye....

I could hear the tv playing downstairs, but my ears couldn't bother to understand the words coming out of the reporters' mouth. All I heard was

"The FBI is asking the public to be on the lookout for these unidentified children, who they believe is being held hostage by the suspected terrorist network..."
"Well it's true. I do feel like I'm being held hostage most days."

I cover my ears when I hear everyone complaining about something "Come on, Baby sis..." Klaus sighs, patting my arms "They need their peace keeper." "I'm too sad." I sigh "I know, me too." Klaus says before pulling me into a hug.

"Where are we supposed to go?" Vanya asks as Klaus and I reach the bottom of the stairs "I have this yurt just outside of Reykjavik. We could totally lay low there. Folks there are a little weird but lovely." Klaus says. I roll my eyes before Harper hugs me and pulls me near her and Five. I smile proudly at the two of them. Five smiles before speaking "Hey, numbnuts, hiding's not gonna make a difference here. The Commission will hunt us down wherever and whenever we go."

Harper frowns and both Diego and I sigh "He's right."

Wait-what?

I turn and look at Diego, surprised. "They'll never stop." Diego sighs, Five and I look at each other "I'm sorry, since when are you an expert on the Commission?" Five asks "Since I got back from there." Diego says "WHAAAAA-" Harper gasps "Yeah, they headhunted me, offered me a job. Full time with benefits, which I had to turn down." Diego states "They headhunted you?" I ask before Five adds "The village idiot."

Diego scoffs "What, am I not allowed to be headhunted? Only the almighty Five and (Y/N) needs to be in demand?" "Diego, you're not Commission material, all right? Got obstinate nature to ya." Five says. I pull Harper to the stairs and we take a seat by Allison.

"Who do you think it was that figured out Vanya was the one that causes doomsdays and stopped it? Me, that's who."

"Hey!" Klaus shouts, making me look at him.

"-I figured it all out on the Infinite Switchboard." Diego says "You were on the Infinite Switchboard?" I ask, Diego looks at me with a smirk "H*** yeah. I made that machine my b****. Y'all need to recognize I got s*** going on y'all don't even know about." Allison rolls her eyes "Oh, sorry. You've got things going on?" She asks "And why'd he say it like that...." I ask "Right?!" Allison huffs.

Vanya catches my attention when I see her going upstairs

~Small Time Skip~

"I'm leaving."

Harper and I look up at Vanya "What? To go where?" Allison asks "Sissy's farm. Something's wrong with Harlan-" "What's wrong with him?" Harper asks quickly, I glance at her "I-I don't know what, but I have to help him." Vanya says nervously.

Quick A/N: So my friend has reminded me that Harlan's like 8 in the show.....but he's 6 in this story.

"Vanya, we need to stick together, ok?" Luther sighs "Now more than ever." I agree "That's why I'm telling you this," Vanya says "Whatever's going on with Harlan, I think I might've caused it." "How?" I ask "He drowned and-uh-somehow I was able to bring him back to life. And now it's like we're connected." "W-what does that even mean?" Luther asks "I don't know. I can't explain, but....I know that he needs my help. I need your help, too." Vanya sighs.

My eyes soften at this "I'm scared. And for the first time in my life, I don't wanna do it alone....I want my family by my side..." Vanya says. I glance around the room to see everyone (but Harper) looking down with guilty expressions "Look, I'm sorry," Diego sighs "We have other priorities right now." "Diego's right....for once. We need to make our stand here and now." Five states

Vanya looks at me and I look at Harper "Ok..." Vanya sighs "I guess I'll see you when I see you."

I sigh before standing up "Come on, Harp." I say. Harper stands and follows me "Where are you going?" Five asks "To either save a little boy or help my sister hide a body." I say. Klaus follows behind me. "Yay, you're coming too, Uncle Klaus!" Harper says happily as we exit the building "UNCLE?! So, I was right! You two DID get laid." Klaus snickers "Shut up, Klaus." I giggle as Klaus pops in the front and Harper and I climb into the trunk.

"So, Ben, huh? Gone forever?" Klaus sighs as we close our doors. "He....traded his life for mine. He saved the world in the process." Vanya says, staring at us. Klaus scoffs "Show-off.....but....did he say anything about...us?" He asks. Vanya nods, making us tilt our heads "He wanted me to tell you that he was too scared to go to the light. It wasn't you that made him stay. And....(Y/N), he wanted to tell you that he wished he could've spent more time with you, but he's happy he got to meet Harper."

Klaus and I look down and I feel Harper's hand on my shoulder. I smile at her "Oh, that little s***-heel," Klaus scoffs, I look at him "All these years, and I thought it was my fault that he didn't take his ticket to heaven." Klaus laughs sadly. I smile sadly "Look, I'm sorry you two, but....you should get out, 'cause I need to-"

"Oh, no, we're coming too." Harper cuts her off. Klaus chuckles and nods at her "We can't let you face the unknown alone, right?" He says to Vanya. She looks back at me "Not ever again." I say with a smirk. Harper and I grin when Allison and Diego hop in the car too "Uncle Batman! Aunt Allison!" Harper says happily. Allison smiles at Harper "Got room for two more?" Allison asks.

Vanya stares at them in awe "What about the Commission?" She asks "Well, might as well do some good before we die horribly." Diego says "Whoo-hoo!" Klaus, Harper and I cheer. Out the corner of my eye, I see Five. I smile softly at him, he blushes before shaking his head and chuckling. Klaus gasps and flinches when Five opens the door "Five....you-you don't have to-" "I know. You owe me one, sis." Five says with a soft smile "Awwwww." Harper and I squeal quietly.

Five laughs quietly before looking at Klaus "Children ride in the back." He says "Ok." Klaus says, squirming his way to the back with Diego and Allison. Five shoots me a smile before buckling his seatbelt "Guys, I don't know what to say." Vanya says with a smile. Harper and I turn quickly when the trunk opens and Luther climbs in. Everyone yelps when the car sinks with him.

We smile at him as he closes the door. I open my mouth to tease him, but Luther speaks before I do "Anyone makes a fat joke, and I'm outta here." Harper hugs Luther's arms and I snicker...this poor car.

A/N: Oh nose, the book will be ending soon.......which is why I'm making a prequel book. It's basically all of season 1. No Harper (sadly). But I don't wanna stop writing for Five just yet. I hope you enjoyed this chapter see you in the next one!
