I woke up with a jolt, it was raining heavily outside and the lightening with thunderbolts was not helping at all. Salma purred beside me with concern on her adorable face. She never left my side for a moment and stayed with me at all times. The nightmares always come back on rainy days, I felt happier with the smell of the raindrops in the garden and freshness of the green grass it felt addicting and full of positive energy calling out to me. The voices calling out to me in whispers woke me up from the nightmares. I tried to sleep but sleep never came, Salma nudged my ankles cooingly with a meow and led me on to follow her to the kitchen. Nightmares made me hungry, so I opened the refrigerator to get 12 pieces of chicken nuggets out from the tegals bag and poured canola oil into the frying pan. I switched on the electric stove for the fire to come alive, the flames danced in the darkness of the kitchen as I waited for the oil to heat up to fry the chicken nuggets. After ten minutes, the chicken nuggets were ready and I carried them with my mouth watering to my room with Salma tailing me behind. She looked at the nuggets longingly so I gave her two.
A few minutes of chewing chicken nuggets felt like an eternity until my uncle and aunt knocked into my room. Both Rehan and Ayaat Sharma looked at my state and asked me if the nightmares came. I shuddered and looked at them to see them terrified, they both sat beside me on the bed and patted my back. After a few minutes of silence, my uncle spoke,"Almairah, my child we have something to tell you. We are so proud of you finishing your college with flying colours. Your aunt and I have something to give to you, it belonged to your mother and we promised her to give it to you on your 18th birthday. Happy birthday Almairah, you have challenges and difficulties coming your way." My aunt looked at me and told me to rest since I needed energy to wake up for school on time. Uncle Rehan and Aunty Ayaat left me in a confused state. I tried to sleep, but ended up tossing in bed. My mind was full of questions and I was confused.
The next morning I woke up with a jolt from the alarm ringing into my ears. The little piggy alarm kept saying oink, oink and it was cute but annoying at the same time. As I jolted awake, it burst into tiny pieces, its springs lying on the floor, "there goes my oinky." I was a little disappointed as it was the fifth alarm this month that shattered, Uncle keeps saying that my powers are uncontrollable as I have turned 18 and it's time my guardians come to train me. I rushed to the bathroom to get freshened up and put on a blue denim jeans and white t-shirt to rush to school. Aunty Aayat trolled behind me with my lunch tiffin as always reminding me the importance of breakfast and how she made cheese toast for me on my special day.
I rushed to catch the rickshaw to go to college as I was super excited to meet my friends Ria and Riansh. They are both fraternal twins and my loves. They bring joy to me and are my best friends since pre - school. Our group in college in small as we prefer a small group of friends. Both ria and Riansh are werewolves from Delhi and belong to a pack from Missouri, USA. Their parents shifted to Delhi for some emergency purposes but their dad got a transfer so they shifted to Mumbai and live a few blocks away from Uncle Rehan's place.
The bell rang and we headed towards our first period, history. History class was fun as Mr Murthi kept spitting at the front row students faces as it was his hobby whenever he felt annoyed. We felt safe as we were sitting in the third row waiting patiently for the bell to ring while completing our homework for maths class. The bell rang and our maths teacher Ms Chandni appeared giving Riansh a smile. We couldn't help but giggle at their little exchange, since Riansh had told us that she was his mate and after graduation he would tell her the truth. After maths class our english period was free since Mrs Kakad did not come and most of the students were glad as we had enough time to complete our home works. Lunch time came and we sat together in the cafeteria sharing our lunch and laughing away. I felt dark shadows following and eyeing me in the cafeteria and I knew I had to tell the twins to make their own way home. I did not want them to get into trouble with the demons, who had been following me since lunch time and looking for weaknesses to capture me. Lunch break ended we we all ended up for gym lessons which both the twins loved but I didn't enjoy physical education much. My powers were developing and practicing any sports activities could be hazardous for my classmates as I was not able to control it yet. I ended up making excuses with our Physical education trainer, Mr Dev by saying that I was feeling dizzy. He excused me from the class and I became the water girl. After physical education class we had geography and computer classes and then we left for the library.
I called the twins and told them to go visit my aunt and uncle if they called and asked about my whereabouts as I decided to be captured. My dreams kept leading me to the golden eyed man whose eyes kept turning red and I couldn't resist but get captured without the knowledge of Sverbus, the Demon King. In my dreams, I was being guided my by parents telling me to find answers and leave uncle and aunty tonight or else their life would be in danger. It was more of a nightmare for me. I didn't want the demons to capture them as well so I planned before hand to get captured by studying late in the library till 5pm as the twins left at 4pm since they had to attend pack meeting with their family on zoom.
I got off the public bus in the jungle 10 minutes away from my home and walked across the lake to hear only the hooting of horses. Suddenly, seven spirits of the dark lord appeared and I dosed off. I put a spell to protect myself by falling asleep so that the wraiths would not suck off the life source from me and I would not lose my energy when being captured by them.
