Ushijima hc : its canon that ushijima can draw well so this is an fluff drabble. I'm screaming right now so 😊 😊 😊
Ushijima sat calmly at his desk, tapping his pencil against the firm wood with his head in his hand, unable to answer one of the last few portions of his English translation assignment. This week, your professor had covered the famous artists and poets of the past 2 decades. Your class had learned about the making of the art and the thought process that went into creating a masterpiece. The last assignment for this week was a translation from English to Japanese, but you weren't allowed to use google translate for the assignment. Of course, Ushijima Wakatoshi, a man of his unwavering pride and dignity, would never resort to cheating. So, there he sat, struggling to translate his last few sentences. A few minutes passed before he completely ran out of possible ideas and he audibly groaned. Convincing himself that he deserved a break, he reached for his phone, seeing that he had missed a text from you earlier that afternoon. He quickly opened it.
'hey Ushi, I made too much onigiri and chicken for myself and I haven't seen you in awhile. Should I pop over and share?' – 6:32pm
'you better respond or ill get stingy and take my offer back.' 6:41pm
Ushijima glanced at the time, a small smile crossing his lips at your behavior. You'd always been like this. When you got lonely, you would cook and look for company. Ushijima was usually that person you sought, and you would find ways to nonchalantly bring him food as well. 'the door is open y/n. I can't wait.' He quickly wrote his reply before setting his phone down and checking the state of his room. Everything was fairly tidy, a few miscellaneous papers strewn at the foot of his bed, but other than that it was clean. He glanced at himself and decided it would be best to change into something more casual than his school uniform if you were going to be with him. He changed into a loose tee and dark athletic shorts, looking at his mirror to check himself.
He glanced at the items lining his drawers and his eyes fell on the cologne you had gotten him for his birthday a few years back. He usually sprayed it on his clothes as they hung in his closet, deeming it more efficient than spraying himself every morning before going to school. He shrugged before giving himself a quick spritz on his neck, just for good measure since you weren't a fan of sweat and the smell of gyms. He made his way down the stairs and into the kitchen. He stared blankly at the sink of dirty dishes and wondered how long they had been there. He was about to place them in the dishwasher before he heard a knock on the front door. He straightened up as you walked in with a large Tupperware container full of onigiri and chicken. You let out a deep breath and your teeth chattered, your cheeks a bright pink. He gently took the food from you and set it down on his dining table, helping you take off your large coat as you shuffled out of your snow-covered boots.
"Hey Ushi-kun! Long time no see!" you said teasingly, your beanie jumping slightly as you lightly hopped over the step at the front entrance. Ushijima quickly picked up the food once more before placing it in his fridge for safe keeping. "We saw each other in class less than 3 hours ago y/n. It's been a relatively short amount of time." He replied, his monotone voice caused you to sigh. "Aw c'mon, don't be like that! It's been forever since I've been over here!" you whined, crossing your arms across your chest with a small pout. Meanie...! You thought to yourself. "That I can agree with. C'mon, you need to warm up y/n. It's freezing outside." He called, gesturing you to follow him to his room. Your heart skipped a beat and you hurried after him, already feeling your temperature warming up at the thought of being alone with him in his room. You shirked the thought away as you entered.
His room was tidy as always and you made your way to the window, eagerly watching the snow slowly trickle down to the ground. Ushijima closed the door behind you and returned to his desk, watching you as you entertained yourself. his eyes trailed from your oversized sweater to your leggings, watching as you shifted to back and forth on your tiptoes in excitement. You turned around and saw him staring in your direction. "The snow is super pretty! We should make snowmen later!" you said with a cheesy smile as you sat yourself down on his bed. "Only after we eat and I finish my homework y/n." he replied, turning back to his desk, and resuming his homework. You looked over at him, now laying on your stomach facing him with a curious glint in your eyes. "What class is it for?" you ask, your legs swaying back and forth casually. "English. There's a word I don't know and its throwing my translation off. I don't want to be wrong either." You could tell by the exhaustion in his voice, he had been struggling with this for a while. Your dad worked in the states when you were a child, so you grew up speaking English as well as Japanese. You inched closer, reading the paragraph he was struggling with. "Which word Ushi-kun?" you watched as he reluctantly pointed to a word. "That's muse." You said blankly. He stared at you in silence. "What's it mean?" "It's like a model or a dream like reference of someone. Like an inspiration for artwork. Like, if I were to paint someone I love or think is beautiful, I would refer to them as my muse." You replied, resting your head in your hands with a soft smile. Ushijima just stared at you blankly before returning to his work. "Oh, alright. Thanks y/n." There was a silence that filled the room as he scribbled his translation down. You took the moment to go make yourself a plate of the food you had brought with you, leaving the room.
Ushijima paused his writing, your words replaying in his head. 'someone I love, or think is beautiful...'. Interesting. He thought to himself, pondering what his muse would be, but he ended up with nothing. He heard your footsteps as you approached, and he resumed writing. You set a plate of food next to him on his desk, a hefty serving at that. "Ushi-kun, I'm pretty sure you haven't eaten yet so eat up ok? You're a growing athlete so you need to eat healthy foods." You spoke, taking a bite of the onigiri. He looked at the massive mound of chicken and onigiri on his plate, wondering if you were plotting to give him a stomachache. "y/n, you don't have to cook extra food for me you know." He replied, a hearty chuckle following his teasing words. You blushed in embarrassment and pouted. "It's not like I'm making it especially for you! B-baka..! I'm eating it too!" you defended yourself only to fail miserably. His smile and his eyes seeing past your lie. You sighed and returned to your food, finishing it quickly. You waited patiently for him to finish writing, but it was taking a toll on you. You felt yourself becoming drowsy and you struggled to keep yourself awake. You struggled to find something to keep yourself preoccupied as you waited, and you realized the cold air filtering in from the old window was the source of your drowsiness.
"Hey Ushi-kun?" you yawned, stretching slightly. You had his attention and he stared at you blankly. It's really cold in here. Can I borrow a hoodie please?" you asked, giving him puppy dog eyes, knowing that he would be reluctant to stop his homework otherwise. He paused for a moment to process your request before making his way to his closet. You watched as he carefully selected a hoodie from his closet before tossing it to you. You looked at it and it had Shiratorizawa's logo with Ushijima's name and volleyball number on the back. You smiled sweetly at it before quickly putting it on over your sweater, immediately feeling warmer and much cozier. You hugged one of his pillows to your chest, sitting crisscrossed on his bed as you watched him pull out yet another sheet of paper, this time blank. "What's this assignment Ushi?" "It's for art. It's not due for another 2 weeks but I need to do well on this in order to bring my grade up. It's my elective for the term." He replied, you could tell he was thinking about other things. "Ah. I'm sure you'll think of something! You're going to do great no matter what Ushijima. You always do. And even if others don't think so, I still think it's great so boo them." You replied, your desire to sleep gaining on you. You laid down, still hugging the pillow close to you. He watched as you laid down in his hoodie, your words sticking to him like glue. That's one of the cuter and more meaningful things you told me y/n. you never cease to amaze me. He simply nodded in reply before thanking you. "What's it supposed to be of?" "It's supposed to be a series of sketches of someone else, but they can't be deliberately posing." You sighed softly. "That sounds difficult, but you can do it. I know it." Your words trailed off as you felt your eyes close. A blight blush tinted his cheeks as he heard your words. You always had a way of saying the simplest things that made him melt.
20 minutes passed as he struggled to sketch out people from videos, volleyball tournaments at that. Needless to say, he was frustrated. Nothing was turning out the way he wanted. He took a break to bring the plates down to the kitchen. When he returned, he glanced out the window. It was dark outside, and his clock read 9:54 pm. He internally sighed, he accidently kept you here later than you were probably comfortable with as it was a school night, and you were known to be an early riser. "hey y/n, it's getting late. I should walk you home." He said, not getting a response. He turned to look at you and saw that you weren't even facing him. Games aren't appropriate right now y/n... He made his way to his desk, squatting briefly. His heart skipped a beat at the sight of you soundly asleep, holding the brim of his hoodie gently over your nose in your hands. You let out a barley audible sigh and he watched intently as you pulled his hoodie closer to you, softly whispering his nickname. Cute...
He returned to his desk, not having the heart to wake you from your dreams, whatever they were. He looked at his new blank sheet of paper before getting an idea. Someone I love or I think is beautiful... He looked at you once more before picking up his pencil and returning to his sketching. His gaze flickered from the sketches to your still figure. Every now and then you would shift or turn in your sleep, signaling him to start a different sketch. He took the occasional break to get up and pull the covers over you or watch over you as you stayed in your dreamworld. By the time he finished, his room was littered with drawings and crumpled up pieces of paper and his eyes were heavy with exhaustion. The sky now a pitch black, small flecks of white snow still drifting down. We didn't get to build your snowmen y/n... he thought to himself, a small pang of disappointment filled him. He glanced back down at his finished product relishing the success of it. He smiled at it, taking a picture of it. However, it felt as if it was missing something. Something small but crucial and he stared at you once more. His pencil started working again, 1 doodle of a snowman in a hat and scarf next to his new favorite word, muse.
Perfection.
