ushijima wakatoshi, the top ace in japan, has one thing on his mind: volleyball. since he was younger, he had a one-track mind. his movements were succinct and precise. once he felt the power he had in the court in volleyball, you couldn't tear him away. the control. he loved the control. when ushijima controlled the court, he was at his highest.

so when a girl named y/n l/n comes into his life to tutor him in chemistry, for the first time, he feels out of control.

ushijima does not like things he can't understand. at moments when he doesn't know what to do, he feels powerless. though he would never admit or show it, he hates feeling out of control. and y/n does not help him with his feelings. why did he feel... weird around her? he became nervous around a classmate he had known for years? he didn't know what it meant.

when he realized he was distracted at practice, it was because he kept thinking of her. when he was studying with her in the library, he kept looking at her, not the book or the notes.

and worst of all, that goddamn feeling in his chest whenever she was around. the feeling that made it seem like someone had put a fist around his heart and threatened to squeeze.  why? why was she making him feel this way?

and what was he going to do about it?
