On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

A lap full of cat
(uh, if it fits then it sits?)

"Honey," Win's mother lamented for god knows how many times already. "Have you seen Bright's cat? It's so cute. Don't you think it's cute?" She sighed. Baby Kao was nestled in the crook of her shoulder, blowing slobbering raspberries into her skin, as she softly patted his warm back.

"Yes, mom, it's very cute," Win droned, still not quite awake while sipping on his, by now lukewarm, coffee at the messy kitchen counter.

The breakfast had been quite an ordeal with so many people; it had basically been the survival of the fittest where everyone tried to go for their favorite breakfast food as quickly as possible and then fought over the leftovers, the little kids shrieked with laughter at the silly antics (for one gut wrenching moment Win's mother even thought that they were about to start a food fight). And of course Win, who had woken up late, had missed out on the bacon and the pancakes, only getting a couple of sad, soggy toasts that no one had wanted.

Bright had silently smirked (it was a smile) at Win when he saw the other young man shuffle sleepily inside the bustling kitchen, squinting in the pale sunlight. Win, however, had only narrowed his eyes when noting that Bright was still wearing his old sweatshirt that he had stolen the night before. The tacky print on the front with an old-school smiley face seemed to mock Win.

"Uncle Win!" One of the kids shrieked when noticing him, making grabby hands towards the young man.

And then a chorus of hello's and how are you's instantly erupted as everyone else tuned in to greet him cheerfully (a little too cheerfully and too loud for Win's liking). Win was quickly pulled into a hug by his mother and then his sisters, Love and Film, telling him how much they had missed him, patting him on the back. However none of them made any further effort to whip up some new pancakes for him.

Win frowned into his coffee, its roasted scent somewhat comforting. Sometimes he really felt just like an extra in this family.

After gobbling everything down, the breakfast vultures had relocated to the living room to get started on the Christmas tree decorations where the first notes of Wham!'s Last Christmas got going. Win rolled his eyes fondly. Here we go. The little kids even managed to drag a reluctant Bright to look for his poor scaredy cat (obviously, Bright was just going to lead them astray since he did not want them pulling on Ame's tail or ears again). And Win had breathed out a sigh of relief since it looked like Bright had actually wanted to make small talk with him. Talk about awkward (off the record, Bright had only wanted to apologize about last night, he was bound to act outlandish when being awoken by an elbow to the gut).

"It's so nice to have everyone gathered," Win's mother mused, looking fondly at Win's still sleepy appearance where he was slouching on the bar chair at the kitchen counter. Finding this opportunity as good as any, she launched into a thorough breakdown of what everyone had been up to in their lives, since he had missed the welcome dinner (and thus all the gossip) last night.

"Cousin Bank and his kids are staying with us. Your cousin Soda and her side of the family are staying at a bed-and-breakfast and will come over any minute, your dad and brother are getting them right now," she was finally finishing off with Kao sleeping soundly in her arms at this rate. "Your aunts from Thailand will be arriving next week and grandma is resting in her room. Make sure to say hello to her when she gets up."

Win only nodded dutifully (he had also made mhmm's and ahhh's at the appropriate moments during her reciting), not even trying to take in the big slab of information thrown at him this early in the morning (it was already after ten).
