The doors slammed open as the knights dragged Jotaro into the throne room where his parents were waiting. Jotaro struggled like a wild caged animal against them, when they arrived at the castle, they took Hikari away, bringing her down into the dungeon. Queen Holly was shocked and horrified to see her son being carried the way he was, but her husband, the King was enraged. The knights brought Jotaro closer and forced him on his knees.
"Jo-!"
"Jotaro, your transgression is very serious and very infuriating." His father told him, his voice was steady but the anger was visible. "We have never had to deal with anything of this calibre before and we never would've if you hadn't met that wicked Princess. You've always been a dutiful son and an outstanding Prince, how could you even think of doing something like this?! You knew our laws!!"
"It wasn't something I planned, father. But I am in love with Hikari and there's nothing you or anyone who can change that!!"
"Honey, please-." Queen Holly said, trying to reason with her husband, but he ignored her and kept glaring at their son. "I told you every day, I told you explicitly to stay away from that brat!! I never should've allowed you to go if I had known you would meet with that girl again! Raugh! This must be her plan, she wanted you to meet so she can go and have you executed!"
"You don't know a damn thing about her! I wanted to see her again! I went to her myself!"
"You have betrayed your country!!"
"It was better than betraying my heart!" Jotaro snapped in fury. He knew his father would never understand but that did not help in controlling her anger. Her parents looked shocked at the unexpected outburst from her son. Jotaro continued. "I don't understand why it is so wrong. Why should I marry someone else when you knew that I loved Hikari? Why does it matter if she's on the enemy side?! She's different from what you've told me about her Kingdom! Why should I betray my heart just to appease my country?"
"Because that is your duty!" His father screamed in rage. "You were born to the throne of Stardust, and with that title comes responsibility. Marrying a princess, a REAL princess is one of them!"
"And as a human being, I have a responsibility to find love. Why should you be given that luxury and not I?"
"Your mother and I also had an arranged marriage, if you recall," King Sadao reminded him.
"Only because you fell in love beforehand and convinced Grandfather that it would be a good match. Do you think I didn't know? Grandfather used to tell me all sorts of stories about how the two of you came to be married. He knew that you had taken a fancy to each other. He had planned to let you join anyway, but this way he said it appeased the people and let you two think you got away with something. You were in love and you were married, yet now that I have fallen in love I have to give her up? It hardly seems fair to me."
"Oh, sweetie..."
"Your mother's and my situation was very different than yours."
"How so, Father?" Jotaro spat out that word with bitterness.
"Because I was a prince when I married your mother! Not one of a vile, corrupted, villainous Kingdom!" King Sadao told him harshly. The knights released Jotaro and the young Prince stood up slowly. Quiet for a minute. Taking everything his father said. He'd never understand. He will never allow him to marry someone he loved. And he was going to...
"So that's it." His voice was barely audible. "It is your own hatred toward the Moon Kingdom that's preventing you from letting me marry whom I wish. It doesn't matter whether your own son is happy or not, as long as you don't lose face. I thought you were bigger than that...Sadao." Slight surprise showed on his face at that. His son...his only son had referred to him by his name. That meant... Jotaro had disowned him as his father. His eyes slowly went wide at the realisation that his son was furious with him.
