Morning had fallen upon Altre a few hours later and Corinna hadn't slept a wink since the attack. She had relocated into another room of the castle since she was too terrified to sleep in her own room. Corinna had been staring at the ceiling for hours, thoughts racing through her head like why someone would try to kill her...or why someone would even want to.
Dried tears had left a path along her cheeks and side of her face. Eventually, she was able to get out of the bed that was significantly less comfortable than her own.
"Princess?" she heard a voice come from the other side of the locked door. Corinna sat on the edge of the bed, feeling numb.
"Yes?"Lola swung into the room not a second later with a gown in her arms.
"How are you feeling?"
"Alive." Corinna replied somberly. Lola looked down at the girl with a frown. How she felt for the innocent girl who almost lost her life.
"Your parents have requested you get ready and head downstairs. They need to discuss some things with you."Corinna nodded her head as she felt too weak to really speak. Her body still ached from getting thrown onto the floor just hours ago. Lola handed to gown to her, it was a beautiful light yellow dress with metal accents on the top of the shoulders. Corinna pressed her lips together and formed a small smile at how beautiful it was. Lola left to let Corinna change before they two would eventually head downstairs.
Corinna looked at her wrist, noting a small bruise from where the intruder had grabbed her forcefully. She was surprised at how easily she had bruised. Not a moment later, Lola came knocking on the door once again.
"Come in." Corinna called.
"You look lovely, your highness." Lola commented once she had a second to look upon the girl.
"Thank you Lola, you always pick the best dresses for me."The older woman smiled at the girl before the corner of her lips curved downwards.
"I was so scared of losing you last night princess." Lola admitted, tears quickly filling her blue eyes.
"You could never lose me." Corinna rushed into the handmaiden's arms and folded into them. She let a few tears slip but tried not to cry too much because she didn't want to lose control of her emotions.
"I'm happy you're safe now. Come, we must hurry." Lola held her shoulders and looked at her face before herding her out fo the room. The castle seemed quiet to Corinna which made her uneasy. Her and Lola walked down the main steps and headed into the room her father usually had meetings in. Sitting on one side of the table was her parents and a few guards standing behind them. The King and Queen looked at Corinna with worry and fear, a look she had never seen on their faces.
"Good morning, you wanted to speak with me?" Corinna croaked out.
"Yes dear, Lola, could you give us a minute?" the King said, nodding his head towards the door. Lola nodded before excusing herself while Corinna took a seat across the table.
"Your mother and I have decided to hire some protection for you." her father started. Corinna's brows slightly furrowed in confusion.
"Oh? Like more guards?"
"Somewhat...Jedi."Corinna continued to stare at her parents with a confused look plastered on her face.
"Jedi? Like from the stories you told me when I was little. I thought they weren't real." Corinna wanted to laugh like this was some joke.
"They're real Corinna, those stories are all real." her father sternly replied. She thought back to all those stories, somewhat fuzzy. Like how her father knew a Jedi when he was younger and all of the things he saw before he met her mother.
"So they're going to babysit me?"
"No, they will protect you and help us investigate. We must find this intruder and what they wanted with you." Corinna's mother butted in. Corinna could tell her mother was more distressed than her father, she wasn't used to this kind of situation.
"They wanted to kill me, that's what he said to me." she uttered softly as she looked down at her folded hands in her lap.
"With the Jedi's help, we will be able to find them and make sure they cannot harm you."
