Alex's point of view:
"Boys! There's a new family and they have three kids!" I run into the garage, waking Reggie who falls of the couch, while Luke just groans, laying on his back in the loft."Alex, I don't really care."
"I think you will once you get to know them!" I counter.
Ever since Julie left us Luke has been always grumpy and angry at the world. He was going to cross over but couldn't leave his mom. Instead, we decided to wait to see who would buy the house next, and make a decision from there.
"What are they like?" Reggie asks, laying on his stomach on the ground chin on his fist swinging his legs like a girl.
"Ummm, very afraid." I run my hand through my hair. Luke gives me a hard look.
"No frickin way." He says sarcastically. "A ghost shows up in someone's house and they react with fear!" He rolls his eyes.
"No like the girl is full of bruises, and when the youngest brother saw me he screamed and someone upstairs yelled about how 'he found us!' and then they all came running down ready to fight me and the mom had a gun!" I ramble, hoping onto the piano and swinging my legs back and forth mocking Reggie.
"Wait, bruises? From what?" Reggies eyebrows go up and I know he's curious. Luke rolls his eyes and poofs down next to Reggie.
"Based on their reactions, someone their running from. She said it was from demons in their past, but whoever did it was bigger than her because those were fist shaped bruises and they were bigger than mine." I ball my hand, observing the size compared to the super prominent bruise on her bicep.
"No way bro, I don't believe you." Luke sighs, before I go
"Fine then let me show you." I grab his shoulder and poof us to the house, where the three kids are in the kitchen still.
"Whoa!" The youngest looks at us. "Hi!"
"Hey little dude." I do a sup nod, making him crack a smile.
"I'm Alex, this is Luke. Reggie is..." I'm cut off by Reggie poofing in.
"Right here!" He does jazz hands. The older brother laughs, the sister looks skeptical at Luke. Like she doesn't trust him anywhere near her or her brothers.
"Ok, Alex was yapping about some bruises?" Luke breaks eye contact with her, looking at the oldest.
"Let's start with introductions. My name is Lakota, but I go by Kota. This is my sister Anne and our little brother Ben. I'm 18, Anne's 17 and Ben is 10."
"You can tell who the whoopsie baby is." Reggie mutters, voicing my own thoughts.
"Yeah. For real." Kota notes, clearing his throat and running a hand through his hair.
"Bruises?" Luke prompts, looking between me and Reggie a little exasperated.
"Show him Anne." I prompt her, but she won't take her eyes off of him, and not in a good way either.
"How do I know your not just like him?" She asks. Kota looks at me like 'sorry'
"Ok so long story short. Moms ex was abusive, and he kinda dressed how Luke is dressed right now. You need to understand that we all know you aren't him, but it's going to get some getting used too if I see that shirt out of the corner of my eye." Kota explains, referring to the AC/DC shirt Luke is wearing.
"Noted. Won't wear this shirt for a while." Luke nods. I pull my sweatshirt off and throw it to him, letting him cover it up. He would do the same for me, even though I know he gets hot in anything other than his muscle tees unless it's real cold outside.
"Thanks. Anyways. Bruises." He pulls the sweatshirt over his head.
"We would have to stop him from hitting mom, and well, yeah." She seems more at ease now that he's in a pink sweatshirt. She pulls off her own sweatshirt and Luke can see everything I saw plus more.
"He HIT you?'l Reggie gasps in shock.
"Well, um, yeah." She slides a hand through her hair, and looks really uncomfortable. Luke doesn't say a word, just glances at me.
"I'll be back."
"Dude my shirt!" Too late, he's gone.
"What was that about?" Kota asks.
"There's one thing Luke hates more than crying, and that's abusive situations. He might be kinda in a mood for a while. His moms best friend died because of her abusive husband and Luke has never forgotten what that did to his mom. I would be surprised if he needs a few hours to calm down." Reggie explains.
"We should go to bed." Ben yawns. Poor little man, he seems so tired. "Will you guys stay with us? Just in case he shows up?" How could I say no to the kid.
"Of course. Where are we sleeping?"
They head up to Carlos's old room, and they all climb into various sleeping bags.
"Do you guys even sleep?" Kota asks.
"Yeah." I tell him.
Within ten minutes, everyone is out, except me and Reggie.
"I'm gonna go find Luke, I'll be back." Reggie tells me. I nod, lay down using the extra pillow Anne threw to me, and close my eyes.
