I pulled my knees up to my chest and rested my chin on them. "Nice to meet you Jane." He had a large doofy smile, he seemed nice but I didn't know what to say. This years plans were to keep distance and to try to stay invisible.
So I just nodded.
"So where you from?" He seemed to be trying to carry on a conversation.
"Around." I said bluntly, trying to keep my voice emotionless, I tried to sound detached. Maybe if I tried I could convince myself that I'm not really real. I'm a drifter, I was going to leave. I don't belong amongst the crowds of happy faces here at happy high.
"Ooooo mysterious." He said in his this accent.
Why was he trying so hard to talk to me? That Grace girl was right, I look homeless. At least I assume I do, I didn't look in the mirror before I left.
"You look bloody exhausted, moving is tough. I moved here last year." I just nodded and stared blankly at the parking lot. "It's okay if you don't wanna talk. I'm gonna be your friend eventually." I raised an eyebrow and adjusted my posture before looking at him.
"Why?" I didn't mean to but my voice was filled with curiosity, and maybe a tinge of sadness.
He furrowed his brows, seeming almost annoyed that I didn't understand his interest. "You seem cool, you just gotta warm up you bloody fool." He smiled and look at the parking lot. "And you look like you need a friend." My cold expression softened and I look at the parking lot too.
We were silent until the bell rang, It wasn't awkward silence, it was comfortable.
I didn't want to, but I enjoyed it.
