I had only been living in St. Petersburg for a week and I'm already tired of it. It's cold, it's boring, and I can't cause any trouble unless I want my brothers to find me. One wrong kill, and they'll know it's me. So I have to keep myself under control.
Which is very hard for me. I've never tried to stop or limit myself in my 900 plus years of life. I've always done whatever I wanted but I need to behave this time or Klaus and Elijah will dagger me for what I did in New Orleans. I don't really think it was all that big of a deal. That Klaus deserved all of it anyways. Not like he hasn't done it to me a thousand times.
I continued walking down the streets on the outskirts of town. So engrossed in my own thoughts about my family.
I barely even notice the figure running straight for me until they grab me and pull me into the alley way. Facing me so that I block them from view of the street.
Seconds later I hear policemen run right past us shouting at each other. They were looking for a thief.
I turn back to look at the figure in the alley. She was leaning with her head up against the brick wall. I assume trying to compose herself from all the running.
She stood up straight smiling and laughing. "WoW, they almost had me this time! They're getting better." She had a bag over her shoulder that she took off and began to rummage through. She pulled out a nice looking watch, nothing to fancy but something most people around here couldn't afford. "Here you go my good sir. Take it as payment for helping me ditch those guys." She looked and I caught her eyes. Neither of us could seem to look way from the other. She held out the watch as an offering to me. I didn't take it from her at first. I had to take a minute to process her. She was beautiful, so different from the other women in St. Petersburg. For one, she didn't even have a Russian accent. Her skirt was more colorful with so many patterns on it. It was cut shorter than the other women, you could see her shoes below the hemline. She also had this scarf around her shoulders to keep her warm.
I was still staring at her when she put the watch in my hand and left the alley the way we came in. I put the watch on my wrist quickly and chased after her.
I caught up with her and started walking down the street again this time by her side. "Come on you can't just leave me like that now darling. I don't even know your name?"
She laughed "Why do you even want to know." Oh, I like when she laughs. I would pay money to hear her laugh more.
"Well it's not every day that a beautiful American girl pushes me into an alley to hide from the Russian police." She smiled at my compliment.
"OH but beautiful Russian women have a bad habit of bumping into you while running from the police?"
"Yes, all the time actually."
"'My name is (y/n). And you are?"
"Kol, Kol Mikaelson."
"Well Kol Mikaelson, it's not every day that I actually have to run from the politisya. I usually don't get caught, you know."
"Why exactly were they chasing you?"
She opened her bag and showed me all the trinkets and cheap jewelry she had stashed in there. "I may have stolen a few things from the high sellers in the market."
I smiled widely at the beautiful thief walking beside me. "You truly aren't like other girls are you (y/n)?"
"Is that your idea of a compliment. Not like other girls? What does that even mean?" She laughed and lightly hit my arm. There was that sweet laugh again. I really shouldn't be talking to this girl. She's going to be the death of me.
We walked together for a couple of blocks talking. I let her do most of it. I truly just liked hearing her voice.
We walked through the city arm and arm for hours talking. She showed me all the places in the city she likes to visit at night. And finally the sun started to peak up through the trees. We had circled all the way back to the street we had bumped into each other at.
"Why don't we go over there to watch the sunrise?" I suggested. I knew I couldn't stay with (y/n) much longer. At some point she would have to find out I'm a vampire and that I have family hunting me down at this moment. I knew that after today I would have to leave her alone and let her enjoy her life. I just hoped I could spend a little more time with her before I did. She was just so interesting. It was like she had already lived a whole other lifetime.
She smiled at the ground but this time it seems sadder than before. "I can't, I'm sorry Kol. Let's just say me and the sun don't get along." She stopped walking and stood in front of me. "I had a lovely night Kol I truly did. But you can't remember any of this, we didn't bump into each other on the street. You found the watch on the ground and you spent the night at the tavern drinking. Now go home and enjoy your life Kol." She then let go of my hand and started to walk back in the other direction.
Confused, I just turned and watched her leave. Why would I believe that I didn't meet her and that I had gotten drunk tonight.
I stood there on the street for a few minutes trying to think as to why she would just leave like that. My god (y/n) is a vampire! She was trying to compel me. That's what she meant about the sun not liking her. Only a few vampires have daylight rings like me and my family; she can't walk in the sun. I kicked at the ground for not figuring it out sooner and letting her just leave like that. Once I snapped out of my moment of frustration, I quickly vamp sped up the street where she had walked off to. When I finally found her the sun was still barely peeking over the roofs of the buildings on the other side of the street, casting a huge shadow over the area. I stood in front of her on the street blocking her from walking off.
She stared at me confused, "Kol? How are you here."
I stepped closer to her, feeling more confident knowing she's a vampire. "Here's a tip darling. If you plan on flirting with a guy all night only to compel him away, don't pick an original vampire. It just won't work out." I smiled looking down at her as she realized what I was. Her eyes met mine and I could see the mischief in them as we were standing so close together.
I couldn't help myself as I gave in and wrapped my arm around her waist. Pulling her into a passionate kiss. Her arms went around my shoulders. After only knowing each other for a few hours I had already been waiting too long to do this.
