Chapter 5.2

I was punctual at getting to the hospital. I got there before it had clocked 10 A. M because of the mission i had. It was show time, go time or the worse that one can never imagine about, get the boot time. Not in doctor Maynard's office, at the florist. Hannah was there, i spotted her from a far. She was not there alone as usual. A friend of her was there with her.

"Now what? Why is she there?" I nagged in my mind as i walked to the florist.

"Huh, Nigel. How are you today?" greeted Hannah when i had reached the florist.

"I am okay" i answered confidently, smiling slightly in order to not give alerts. "Hi?" i greeted her friend. She didn't answer me; she instead just stared at me.

"She does not hear and talk so just give her thumbs up" said Hannah. "Her name is Kathy."

I did what she told me and Kathy did the same at me, grinning angelically.

"Should it be the usual package?" Hannah asked me, both her hands on the counter of the florist.

"Yeah" i said.

"That will be coming right up soon" she said and turned away from the counter to do her job which Kathy watched attentively as she was doing it. She so quickly returned to me with a ready pack of roses.

"Mm, Hannah, would it be okay if i take you out for lunch tomorrow?" i asked her perfectly, beautifully and calmly. Only in my imaginations that happened. That was actually the way i wanted things to flow as i was receiving the pack of roses from her but i got nervous and "thanks" was all that i said.

"You are welcome and by the way, this is my last time working here" she said and hearing that brought a shock wave to my body.

"Why?" i gasped, frowning at her.

"I am going to college" she replied, her voice breathy. "The plane i am to board leaves tonight and that's why Kathy is here. She is here to replace me."

There was nothing i could have changed there. It was a little bit too late for anything. Her number i had gotten a long time ago and yet i had never called her. something in my heart kept on pushing me back from calling her or texting her and then there i was, struck by a love arrow so strong that had me drunk in love at the wrong time.

"Well, huh. It's funny, wanted to have lunch with you tomorrow" i said, chuckling.

"Sorry" said Hannah, her eyebrows raised. "I didn't hear that."

"Would have loved to take you out for dinner tonight or tomorrow" i said, seriously. "Or maybe for lunch but i guess now is not a good time."

Hannah laughed and asked me, "are you being for real or you are joking?"

"Am being honest" i said. Puzzled she looked at me. "Have a nice trip and all the best."

I started to walk away from the florist so fast, trying my best not to look back. I didn't go far although. Hannah stopped me. She had called me for a big reason that i didn't know yet. I was about to find out. She came and stood face to face with me, leaving a little gap in between.

"Nigel, Nigel" she chanted very softly. "Nigel -"

"What?" i asked her, my voice breathy and reduced to like that of a ten years old boy.

"What took you so long Nigel?" she replied. "What took you?" The only heart in me heated up and i could not hear anything except it and her. "You took my number but you never called me. I gave you the map to my home but you have never for once visited me. You didn't even ask me if i wanted to go on a date with you all this while and now you just said that because i have told you that i am leaving."
