Chapter 14.2
The happiness didn't fade from her for the whole day. We knocked off everything still the same. X was no more and Bennis was to be around for a very long time. It was my hope that she had to be.
Knocking off had never felt better than it did on this day. Although i was feeling a little fatigue i got on my scooter and took the road to Klacont hospital. I was a little bit of a happy man who in the day had gotten a chance to redefine himself. I arrived in the room of Jennifer with a pack of red roses Kathy had selected for me. All eyes in the room on me i opened my mouth and sang, "oh happy day. Oh happy day. Oh happy day. Oh happy day, when everything just goes so well. When everything just goes so well...."
I sang and sang until when Jennifer had heard enough."Young man - young man" she chanted imitating the voice of Randy Jackson, one of the judges on American idols. "Young man, please!"
"Yes" i responded to the chanting and eagerly waited to hear what she wanted to say. She had already undergone her last chemotherapy treatment and her health was stabilizing despite the tumor still being inside her head.
"It's a no from me" she said firmly.
"No from me as well" said my mother as she laughed. "Please put the flowers in the jar and take a seat."
I acted as if i was sad.
"Thank you for giving me your attention" i said and after put the rose flowers in a jar half full of water. I never sat down. I chose to lean my back against the Chester.
"You won't believe who was here today" Jennifer gushed.
"I am so strong at the moment that i feel like no news can surprise me and send me into shock" i said in a confident manner. "So who is it that was here?"
"Your favorite grandpa" She said.
I had made a mistake of talking pompously about the strength i had. The strength was mostly in my head, within the thoughts i had. Pathetically, it wasn't in my possession.
"Which grandpa are you talking about?"
"You got left with one, remember?"
"Yeah, i do."
Short was my visit. I left the hospital not so long after i had gotten there. I was in a hurry to get to a place i had promised to be but first i needed to refreshen up and look good. Home was where i was to do that. Jennifer told me that my favorite grandfather, the father of my dad, was not going to leave town without seeing me and hence, it didn't surprise me to find a chauffeured car outside my home and him on the steps of the front porch. My first sight of him had me smiling because of shame. I had not seen the old man in a while and had not communicated with him for a long time. Because of him i parked my scooter outside of the garage. I walked to him, and then exchanged greetings with him. I after sat next to him. He had refused to follow me into the house so I had no option but to sit there with him.
"You have been here for a while?" i asked him. He responded after some seconds, maybe more than a minute later, and when he had done so he left my question unanswered.
"I know its cold outside here with the snow falling" he said slowly. It was the way he talked, never fast. He brought out a pack of cigarettes and offered it to me, to pick one cigarette definitely. I declined. I was a non-smoker and still i am. "The driver said it is not allowed to smoke in his car, that's why you have found me here and since you don't smoke, it will be wise that we just chart here."
