Chapter 9.1
Being home after coming from work was torturing, boring, not cheering and not entertaining. If not for the television and me it was just another place in space, quiet, still and not lovable. Too bad the shade went to it despite it not being the one to take the blame for the state i was in that had me hating it. I had escaped being there earlier that morning by going straight to see Jennifer right after knocking off from work and i was to do so again later in the day.
For a number i don't know the place had become not a home for me. In my opinion, home is where the heart is and mine wasn't anymore where i lived. From the hospital i had learnt something i had almost forgotten about. The day was another of the days that Jennifer had remaining with to receive chemotherapy treatment. By any means i had to stay positive by her side together with my mother.
As i waited for the time to clock 13:30 hours, the time Jennifer was to start taking her chemotherapy treatment, i did some laundry and ironing. They were the best actions i did to keep me off things since getting up in the morning. There came a time i realized that i was not being faithful to myself. It was like i was acting. Shamed, i went to the kitchen, picked up the phone and dialed the number of Annika. I was desperate to hear from her. The call went straight to the voicemail.
"Hello, you have reached Annika but i can't take your call at the moment so just leave a message. Bye" played a recorded voice of her. "I will call you immediately after i have listened to your message."
It was a bit of a relief. There was nothing like her voice at the other end of the phone when calling her before then.
"Hey, how are you today?" i asked her, leaving her a voice message. "You have been missed and i am just wondering about when you will reappear again. I believe you won't be invisible to me for forever........... Mm, you have a great day."
I made one more call after. Lucky enough there was a response for this one.
"What's happening bro?" asked Eddie, happily.
"You tell me" i answered him. "You sound over the moon."
Eddie laughed as if he was watching the hilarious Mr. Bean Movie.
"It’s official between us" he said.
"I don’t know who you are talking about"
"I am talking about Khalidwe."
I was happy for him and simultaneously jealous of him. He was done complaining of not dating and i was not.
"That's awesome dude" i said and chuckled. "It’s my wish that you should not lose that girl."
"Of course dude" Eddie drawled. "And about the mask party, it is on. Dressing code color is any as long as you have put on a shirt, a necktie and a suit and just like that and with all that on you be assured to be allowed into the hall the party will be in. Bring Annika, brother otherwise you will dance alone the whole night."
"I will see about that."
"Trust me. She won't say no if you ask her. If she doesn't come with you it will be because you didn't ask her."
What he wanted me to do seemed easy to him because he had no idea about what was going on with me and Annika. I just had to try for things to turn out that way.
"Don't worry. We will be there" i said with an intention to please him. "Hope Miss Khalidwe will be there too so that i should get to know her."
"That's for sure. We are glued to each other right now" Eddie said excitedly. "And still on the don't worry. Have you cooked up a plan of how you will leave your work for the party?"
