It was a normal day for Tommy, streaming while fooling around on the Dream Smp. Everything was going good, all of his jokes landing well with the viewers. His mood was offset, however, when his phone lit up with a worrying text from his mom, stating he needed to end his stream as soon as possible, which was very out of the ordinary, his mother never texted him to end streams, she only would tell him off for being too loud occasionally. Tommy had felt his stomach immediately drop upon seeing the text. and ended the stream relatively quickly, covering up his mood change well, not wanting to worry anyone.

As Tommy shut down his pc, he sent a text to his mom telling her he had ended, not wanting to confront her so soon. Shortly after, he heard her footsteps coming up the stairs, and Tommy truly had no idea what to expect, but he prepared for the worst, whatever that may be.

His mother opened the door slowly, and the look on her face made it clear the impending news would not be good. She sat down on his bed, patting the space next to her, signaling she wanted Tommy to sit by her. Tommy slowly made his way over, wanting to draw out the moments of not knowing what she would tell him, and sat by the head of his bed.

"Well, I got a call from Mrs. Smith" Tommy's mom started.

"And?"

"Toby's not okay. He's in the hospital. Something happened, I don't know all the details, but he's in a coma..."

Tommy didn't know what to say, or how to react, he couldn't take it in.

"Tom, hey look at me. I do know that the doctors think he'll be okay, and return to normal once he wakes up"

"It's not guaranteed though Mum"

His mom looked at him with a sympathetic look, her eyes swelling up with tears upon seeing her son so worried. She knew how close the two were, and how much they relied on each other. She engulfed him in a hug, and the teenage boy immediately melted into it. As much as he liked to seem tough, a hug from his Mom was what he needed right now. He rested his head on her shoulder and closed his eyes, trying to stop the tears from falling, but ultimately failing.

"Do you have anything planned for tomorrow, Tom? Because I could drive you down and we could stay at the Smiths's for a few days, they offered to take us in, only if you're up for it, though."

Tommy muttered out an agreement into his Mum's shoulder.

"Alright, I reckon you should get some sleep then buddy, big day tomorrow"

"Yeah, okay Mom" Tommy said as he untangled from his moms arms.

"Oh, I almost forgot, I know it'll be hard, but Mrs. Smith said she wanted to keep this in the down-low while they figure things out, so don't say anything to anyone, just for a few days."

As his Mom walked out, before shutting the door she left him with, "It'll be okay."

As soon as Tommy heard the click of the door shut his mind ran wild with a million questions, he had just talked to Tubbo yesterday morning, nothing was out of the ordinary, he was his normal self. He ran through the events of their last call, scanning to see if he could have missed any signals, but there were none, Tubbo seemed completely normal. And as he fell asleep, none of the questions had answers.

He felt so alone. Normally when something went wrong in his life, he immediately hopped in a call with Tubbo to tell him all about it, but he couldn't do that now, and he had no one else to go to.
The next morning, the car ride to the Smith household was mostly silent, but the air was filled with worry, but after 4 hours that felt like an eternity, they were there.

Tubbo's family welcomed them with open arms, excited to have them there, seeing as Tommy was like and extension of their own family. It was different then normal, and Tommy could tell they were all stressed, but he was happy to be as close to Tubbo as he could, hoping it would make him feel better.

Tubbo's mom drove him to the hospital, knowing Tommy would want to be alone with him when seeing him for the first time. As they drove, she told him what to expect, wanting to give him some preparation rather than letting him go in blind.
As they walked in the doors of the hospital, Tommy was brought with a wave of the smell of antiseptics, and it was like being hit with the news all over again.
He walked through the antiseptic halls by Tubbo's mother's side. As they reached his room, Mrs. Smith said she'd leave him for now, knowing it would be an emotional moment.

Tommy took in an unsteady breath, preparing himself, and walked in. As soon as his eyes landed on Tubbo, he felt tears prick his eyes. Seeing his best friend in the condition he was in, wires all over his body, a heart monitor by his side, gave him an unexplainable hurt.

He took a few steps forward, and sat in the chair that was left by his side. He took Tubbo's fragile hand in his own, and put his head down, letting the tears fall.
He sat there for a few minutes, taking it all in, and slowly moved his head up to Tubbo's hair, and ran his fingers through it.

"Please be okay, Tubs."

He was happy he was alone in the room, because if someone saw him being this vulnerable, he knew he would never hear the end of it.

He sat there in the room for awhile, only the sounds of the machines in the room and the occasional sniffle from Tommy, until everyone came back to the hospital.

Tommy spent the next few days by Tubbo's side, only leaving the hospital in short bursts when he needed to. He talked to Tubbo a lot during those days, hoping Tubbo could somehow hear him. He went over their entire friendship, reliving some precious moments, such as went they met for the first time at 13, and their first days on the Dream Smp. He went through their silly arguments and times when they laughed so hard they couldn't breathe.

During those days, he realized how lucky he was to have Tubbo as a friend. He always appreciated him, but never to the extent he had now. Tommy made a reminder to show his appreciation for Tubbo more in the future, he just hoped Tubbo wouldn't think it was too weird.

He cried, laughed, and slept by Tubbo's side for the next 3 days, while his state gradually improved. It wasn't often for Tommy to crave physical interaction, but all he wanted at the moment was a hug from his best friend.

As Tommy was resting his head by Tubbo's side, loosely holding his hand, when he felt Tubbo's hand move. He immediately jerked his head up, the movement surprising him. He watched as Tubbo slowly fluttered his eyes opened, and hoped he came to his surroundings quickly.

As Tubbo's eyes opened, he looked around the room he was in, mumbling some confused words, and his eyes landed on the blonde boy beside him.

"Tommy? What's going on? Where am I? What-"

"Toby bud, it's a long story, I can get the doctor to explain-"

"Are you crying, Tommy?"

"Yeah bitch you could've died, don't scare me like that again okay?"

Tubbo then reached his arms out, and Tommy leaned into a hug, burying his face in Tubbo's shoulder

"I'm so happy you're awake, I've got so much to tell you"
