Althea POV

I WANTED to laugh at what she was saying. I didn’t know what her point was, but she was ridiculous. I didn’t care about the words coming out of her mouth because they were disgusting.

"You're just a pathetic bitch!" She pointed the gun at my forehead. I could feel the barrel pressing against my skin… a cold sweat broke out all over me. "My hands are itching to pull the trigger on this damn gun. But I have so much to say to you first—so much that I don't even know where to start! Ha!"

She traced the barrel across my face. I was terrified that she might suddenly lose it and fire without warning. This woman was a demon!

"Any last wish, my dear princess?" she asked with a smirk before pulling the cloth from my mouth. "Speak!" I flinched when she suddenly shouted and pressed the gun to my forehead again.

I tried to open my mouth, but no words came out. Silent tears rolled down my cheeks. I didn’t even know what they were for. Were they tears of my last breath? Tears of suffering? Tears of fear? I didn’t know!

Trembling, I turned to look at Kayzer. Only now did I realize that he was staring at me. I could see how much he wanted to speak, to crawl toward me, but his body couldn’t take it. I barely recognized him because of the bruises and wounds on his face. My tears fell even harder.

I turned back to Dianna. "I’ll agree to what you want… on one condition." I looked at Kayzer and gave him a bitter smile… he shook his head. "Just let Kayzer go."

But all I got in response was a laugh from the witch.

"What do you take me for? An idiot? I can kill you both even without any conditions!"

"B-But I just want you to let Kayzer go!"

She held her chin as if in deep thought, then smirked and turned to the man. "What’s so special about Kayzer? Is he the one you love now? And not my Baby Blake!?"

I fell silent at her words. Blake… That’s right. Where was he? I scanned the entire place but saw no sign of him.

"Don’t worry. The beloved prince is safe because it’s the beloved princess I want. But since your so-called prince charming wanted to play hero, he got caught up in this."

"Dianna! What do you really want!?"

"What do I want? Your life, you fool!"

She swung the gun and struck my cheek hard, making my face whip to the side. A numbing pain spread across my cheek from the force of the blow.

"I want your life, Althea!" She stepped back two paces and aimed the gun at me. "So now… I’ll take it!" she added as she pulled the trigger.

The world seemed to stop. Everything felt like it was in slow motion. All I could see was the bullet speeding toward me. I didn’t know what to do; my body felt frozen in place, unable to even flinch.

I turned to Kayzer. I saw the tears streaming down his face… He was saying something, but I couldn’t hear him. I just smiled at him and looked up. Then I closed my eyes.

'Lord, I leave my child and Kayzer in Your hands. Please watch over my mom and dad as well. I hope they can forgive me for all my lies.'

I opened my eyes again, and the blurry ceiling came into view. I let out a bitter smile. Maybe this was it. Maybe this was the way to be free from all my troubles. Slowly, I closed my eyes again.

I replayed the happiest moments of my life while waiting for the bullet to hit me.

But then, a voice called out.
