Red or yellow, red or yellow, red or yellow…
Elise looked at the two pairs of pants she’d set on the light gray bed sheets in front of her, biting her lip. Beside them was the tight black crop top she was planning to wear for the performance in an hour and a half, but she was stuck between choices for whatever bottoms she would wear. She quickly took a picture and sent it to Julie, placing her phone on her nightstand soon after.
She snapped her head around when there was a knock on the door. A single arm was floating through it, wrapping on the dark wood from the inside.
“Come in.” She called out. Three boys entered soon, walking through the door and stopping when they were stood just next to her bed.
“Okay, update.” Alex had one hand in his pocket, and the other was raised to emphasize his words. “Long story short, Julie’s grounded.” Elise’s eyes widened and she opened her mouth rattle off numerous curses and complaints, but Luke cut her off just at the beginning of her freak-out.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. She’s still coming, just in a… less ethical way.” Her shoulders relaxed and she sighed in relief. She was thankful in that moment that her own father didn’t keep tabs on her, this would never have to be much of an issue. He didn’t even bring up the fact that’d she’d missed her first three classes. And if he knew some other stuff she’s done in the past, he probably wouldn’t even care enough to punish her. It was a perk.
“Well does she still have her phone? Because I need her help with this outfit.” She returned her eyes and huffed, tapping her foot as her patience began growing thinner.
“Just pick one, dude. It not that big a deal.” She shot Luke a glare, he shrugged defensively. She clicked her tongue and crossed her arms, smiling bitterly.
“Has anyone ever told you dress like a forty-year-old man on the brink of a midlife crisis?” He was caught off guard and crinkled his face in questioning. “And what is your deal with sleeves, man?”
The last comment made Alex snort loudly, Luke’s mouth hung open and he deadpanned the blonde. Reggie just shook his head, sending a disappointed glare in the brunette boy’s direction. He threw his hands in the air as if giving up when he realized that he was a one man army.
“I for one think clothing is an art form.” The boy tugged at the end of his leather jacket as if showing it off, eyebrows raised smugly. Elise nodded in his direction to visibly display her agreement.
“Thank you, Reggie.” She replicated this same smugness with a smile, Luke looked frustrated but amused, nevertheless. “So, which one. Red or yellow?”
Reggie smiled, looking over his options. He beamed and motioned to his flannel. “Red. We can match!”
She laughed. “Yeah, man. We’ll be twins.”
Alex was the only one who’d been in her room before, the other two took the next few moments to have a slow look around. Everyone always seemed to do this their first time being here. There was trend, everyone found something they liked. Maybe it was the fact that she was a bit of a hoarder, or that her room just had so much space for all her decorations and trinkets. Standing in her room was like standing in an antique shop. A much angstier, teenage antique shop.
Luke acknowledged the Rush poster, the way Alex had last time, along with a few more of her older pictures. Many of the band posters came from her father’s old stuff, she took the ones for the music she liked as well. Reggie took an interest in her Empire Strikes Back poster.
“Anyways, we should get going. We’ve gotta’ case the joint.” The guitarist said. Alex groaned, though agreeing a moment after, and Reggie nodded silently. They began their goodbyes, Luke lingered just a second longer. “And for the record, I dress cool.”
