“Ella! Come on! Its time! Let's leave before the next teacher arrives!!” Natalie pulls her out of the classroom.
“Isaac! Inform the teacher!! Bye!” Natalie exclaims.
Isaac just waves at them. *Lucky……*“Why did we leave before the teacher came?” Brandon asks Natalie.
“We're having a test today.” Natalie shrugs.
“Wait! What?!” All the three look at her.
“But we weren't informed!” Elijah says.
“It is a surprise test.”
“Wow! Thanks Natalie! You're the best class monitor!” Brandon gives her a side hug. So does Eli.
“Thanks guys.” she laughs.
“Ella! What happened?” Natalie suddenly asks.
She looks at her.
“Nothing.”
“Why are you so lost?”
“Ugh! I'm not able to write my new chapter! I'm just in chapter 5 and there's still so much to do! And its December 4th! Just 20 days left!”
“Ella! You mustn't worry. Everything will be alright.” Natalie places a hand on her shoulder.
Ella looks at Natalie and a smirk appears on her face. Natalie looks at her.*She's definitely plotting something!*
“Help me during lunch.” she said before they entered the music room.
All the boys and girls sat separately in the room. The music teacher started with the announcements.
“So its been two weeks since we first started to practice and I have to say, that you all are doing well!” she smiled.
“Thank you ma'am!” all of them shouted.
“Okay! So the Christmas program is on the 18th of December. So we have 16 days left. It is on a Wednesday. Take out two Saturdays and two Sundays. So we only have twelve days left. So let's do our best!”
“Yes ma'am!”
“Okay! So all of you must wear plain white T-shirts and black jeans. And we'll give you the accessories. Understood?”
“Yes ma'am!”
“Good! Then let's start!”
_________
It was lunch time and Ella sat with Natalie in their classroom. No one else was there. The two of them sat in the last bench. She sighed.
“What's wrong Ella?”
“I don't know what to do Nat.”
“Is it the book?”
She put her head down on the table and looked up at Natalie.
“No. I lied that time.”
“Then what's wrong?”
“It's Eli.”
Natalie sat up straight.
“What's wrong with him?” she asked.
“We always share our secrets. Always. Since we used to shift a lot, we didn't have much friends. So we developed a really close bond. Since two weeks he's facing something and he won't tell me. I'm really worried about him Nat. I know I sound possessive but that's how we are. I'm just so worried. I just wish he opens up.”
“I understand. Do you know what is wrong?”
Ella thinks for a while.
“It's a dream.”
“A dream?”
“Yea. Eli is always affected by dreams. It its a good dream, he is the happiest. Bit if its bad, then he's down. But he doesn't show much of it.” she says, her gaze fixed on the blackboard.
“Oh….I see. My cousin faced this problem once too!”
Ella looked at her. “They did?”
Natalie nodded.
“He had a similar problem to Eli. He once had a nightmare that he wouldn't be able to get a degree. He was really upset since he took dreams seriously. He just moped around for weeks till his elder brother had to sit down and get him to open up. And the reason why he didn't open up was that he thought that everyone would laugh at him and call him silly.”
“What happened to his degree?”
“Well….he's finished his PhD and is a Professor at one of the top Universities.”
“What? Really? Shut up!!” she exclaims.
“Yea.”
“Oh my God! That's so cool!!”
Natalie smiled.
“So what I'm trying to tell is…..get Eli to open up. He might think you'll laugh at him. But assure him you won't.”
Ella nods.
“Thank you Nat.”
“Anytime Ella.” both of them hug each other.
____________“Eli catch it!”
The basketball goes right past him.
“Eli! We're loosing!” Brandon shouts.
*What's wrong with him? He's never lost.*
Brandon just pulls Eli out of the court and pulls him to a nearby bench.
“What's wrong man?” Brandon looks at him with concern.
“Nothing.” Eli stares at the tree before him.
*What am I missing? Why didn't I get into the gate?* Eli thinks.
Eli has been having the same dream for two weeks. It was the same thing, he with his friends, then they would line up in front of a gate and all the children would happily go in, when his turn came the tall man in white, who Eli came to know as Mike, would tell him that he cannot go in and that he has to find out the reason why. Eli tried to ignore it but it finally got to him after continuously appearing for two weeks.
A hand waves in front of him.
“Eli you alive?”
He turns to look at Brandon, who was worried.
Brandon placed a hand on his chest and sighed.
“Thank god! I thought you were dead for a while.”
Eli laughed.
“Don't fool around Brandon. Let's go and play.” he gets up, only to be pulled back to his seat by his best friend.
“Shut up and tell me everything!”
*I have no choice do I?* he sighs.
*Open up Eli! He's your best friend*
*But I haven't told Ella yet!*
*Just do it will ya?!*
He takes in a deep breath and tells everything to his best friend.
