"Okay Avery please be on your best behavior" my mother suddenly turned to me with with both of her eyebrows raised.Soon we arrived at the towering Blackwood mansion. I will admit that the house is beautiful even if it is more like a castle than a house.
Before we could even get to the first steps the large doors swung open to reveal an excited women with blonde hair and pale skin. She looked to be in her mid thirties with blue eyes and sharp facial features. I can see where all the Blackwood children got their genes from.
"Welcome Betty, it's been a long time since I've last seen you. Come on in, dinner is almost ready".
Inside the house was modern but cozy. Not too sleek and not too warm. The high arches and big chandeliers made the space bright and open. The high arches and stone walls reminding me of the school hallways. The beauty of the interior put my house to shame.
Following Mrs. Blackwood into the dinning room, the rest of the family was already seated awaiting for our arrival.
Avery I would like you to meet my husband Mark. She pointed to a dark haired man with a chiseled face and buff arms. His eyes were dark but held a warm greeting as he smiled at me.
Next she introduced a little boy. "This is my youngest son Matt who just turned 8". The little kid looked like the sweetest thing in the world as he waves at me and gave me a toothy grin. His adorable blue eyes crinkling behind his blonde hair as he smiles.
"Next to Matt are the twins Robert and Gabe and sitting next to the twins is Xavier". Then to the left of the twins is Rose and Sasha and across from them is Angel."
All the other siblings had dark hair except for Angel. I guess the black hair was the dominant trait in the family. Smiling shyly I give a small wave as they all stare back at me.
Both of my parents went to go sit down and introduce themselves and in doing so left me to go take a seat in the only chair left which was right next to Angel. Great! Sighing I slowly walked to the chair and sat down moving the chair as far away from Angel as possible.
Throughout the whole dinner all I felt was the eyes of Angel. It felt like he was trying to burn a hole in the side of my face. Trying not to pay attention to him I just kept messing with my food and not making conversation with anyone unless I was asked a question. Thankfully I everyone could tell I was not in the mood to talk so they left me alone.
Listening to the conversation at hand between my parents and the Blackwood's I learned what they do for a living. They work in selling stocks and bonds. No wonder they are well off and apparently well respected in this town.
"So Avery are you going to eat or are you just gonna keep pushing your food around the plate"? My head snapped quickly to the left as I heard the smooth voice of Angel. Surprised written across my face as he actually said something to me instead of just intensely staring at me. "Um I'm not really hungry and I don't wanna be rude to your parents who went out of their way to cook my parents and I dinner" I replied back looking back down at my plate. Fidgeting around with my napkin I remained silent hoping he wouldn't ask me any more question. Thankfully he didn't ask me anymore question seeing as I didn't really feel comfortable around him.
Finally dinner was over and my parents and I were on our way back home. Walking the short distance from the Blackwood's to mine I felt as if someone was watching me from behind. Quickly before going into my house I turned around. Automatically my eyes were drawn to the Blackwood house. Looking up I realized that all the lights were off except for one. As I tried to get a clear sight of the figure that was peering at me through the window the light quickly shut off. Freaking out a little I rushed back inside and went upstairs to get ready for bed. Thank god that today is Friday and I don't have to get up for class tomorrow. Turning off my light and climbing into bed I relaxed in hopes that sleep would find me. Instead sleep never came and I was wide awake. Thinking about everything that happened today I came to the conclusion that something isn't right about the Blackwood family. I may sound crazy but I have a gut feeling that something tells me they really aren't who they say they are. Finally after over thinking everything I fell asleep with thoughts of Angel on my mind.
Little did I know that as I was peacefully sleeping I had a little visitor from next door on my balcony peering in through the window with glowing charcoal eyes.
