IVY LEANED her elbows on the table as she read the book in her hands. She had made a goal to read as much as she could this summer. It helped distract her mind from everything that happened in the previous years. Ivy would never tell anyone but she still suffered from nightmares after everything.
"Hi." Ivy heard a familiar voice greet Robin, who was working the counter. Ivy set her book down as she listened close.
"Hi."
"I'm Dustin." The voice said. Ivy and Steve gave each other looks. After last year the three had grown pretty close.
"I'm Robin." Robin to the boy.
"Pleasure to meet you. Uh, are — are they here?"
"Is who here?"
"Henderson." Steve said, bursting through the door. "Henderson! He's back!"
"I'm back! You got the job!"
"I got the job!" Ivy stood back and watched the boy do their handshake. She laughed before pulling Dustin into a hug.
"How many children are you friends with?" Robin asked with a smirk.
⚓︎
"No, No. No way." Ivy said as Dustin told her and Steve about his girlfriend from camp. "Hotter than Phoebe Cates? No."
"Brilliant, too. And she doesn't even care that my real pearls are still coming in." Dustin told them. "She says kissing is better without teeth." Ivys smile faltered a bit when she heard that.
"Wow. Yeah, that's great. Proud of you, man. That's ro — That's kinda romantic." Steve stuttered. "That's like... Wow."
"So do you really just get to eat as much if this as you want?" Dustin asked, referring to the ice cream.
"Yeah. I mean, sure. It's not really a good idea for me, though. I gotta keep in shape for the ladies." Steve told him.
"How's that working out for you?" Robin and Ivy asked at the same time.
"Ignore her." Steve said before looking over to Ivy. "And Ivy."
"She seems cool." Dustin said.
"She's not/she is." Steve and Ivy said at the same time.
"So, where are the other knuckleheads?" Ivy asked after shooting Steve a glare.
"They ditched me yesterday."
"No."
"My first day back. Can you believe that shit? They're gonna regret it, though, big time, when they don't get to share in my glory." Dustin told them.
"Glory? What glory?" Steve asked.
"So, last night, we're trying to get in contact with Suzie... And, uh..." Dustin trailed off before whispering something the twins couldn't hear.
"What?" Ivy asked. Dustin took a deep breath before saying it a little louder but they still didn't understand him. "Just speak louder."
"I intercepted a secret Russian communication!" Dustin shouted.
"Jeez, ahh. Yeah, okay, that's what I thought you said." Steve said when all eyes turned towards the group. "What — What does that mean?"
"It means, Steve, we could be heroes. True American heroes. Just think, you could have all the ladies you want and more." Dustin told Steve.
"More? I like more."
"What's the catch?" Ivy asked.
"No catch, I just need your help."
