Whispering the Slytherin common room password, I enter as quietly as possible. I wasn't supposed to have gone to the Gryffindor common room, especially since it wasn't my Hogwarts house.
Although I wish it was.
I sigh, still disappointed I had so little time to catch up with Hermione. I shifted my focus back onto the task at hand, finding my way into the dorms without anyone realising I was gone. I tiptoed carefully and peeked my head into the common room, sighing in relief. There was no one there. I walked in, still cautious, and headed towards the green couch.
The Gryffindor common room was way better. I sit down on the couch and lay my head on the back of the couch, feeling my eyes starting to close. I yawn and let myself sink into sleep.
"What do you think you're doing?"
My eyes shoot open in an instant. I look up, and it's Malfoy, standing over the edge of the couch, looking down at my face. He's upside down for me, and it gives me a headache so I get up and turn around.
"What do you mean?" I ask him, annoyed he woke me up.
"You came really late, Y/N. Where were you?" He asks me with a smirk. At first I see a glance of concern in his eyes, but I shrug it off, thinking that I still must be delusional having just woken up.
I follow his eyes. He's looking at my bandaged arm. I take advantage of that.
"I was treating my arm...what's it to you, anyway?" I try to change the subject.
I'm not very good at lying. I broke my mother's favourite vase when I was 7, and I tried blaming it on my sister, Ella. Obviously, my mum didn't believe me. From then on, she knew when I was lying and I never got better at it.
Fortunately, for me, Malfoy believes me.
"Oh, well, okay," His face is blank. I can tell he doesn't know what to say, since he was probably hoping that he could catch me in a lie and expose me for doing something bad. What an ass. He starts to sit down on the seat next to me, and hesitates before getting completely settled in.
I look at him incredulously and scoff, "What are you doing? Get off," I demand, irritated he's even 5 feet close to me. I just want to sleep.
He doesn't reply and instead closes his eyes and lays back.
I roll my eyes in disbelief. "Fine, I'll get off then," I start to get off the couch, when I feel his arm on mine, pulling me back.
"What on earth are yo-"
"I'm sorry," He interrupts me.
What?
He opens his eyes, which are now filled with guilt, and looks at me. "I'm sorry," He continues, "For...that..." His eyes go to my arm. "I-uh, didn't mean to hurt you, I just wanted my seat, so..sorry," He finishes. He looks away awkwardly.
I'm still in shock. My eyes are now widened, but they soften after a while as I process his pathetic apology. I croak a "It's fine, I guess" out, before standing up and going to my dorm. I'm way too tired to think about anything that had just happened, so I lay down on my bed and start to drift off to sleep.
---
It's 4.30am and I wake up. It's hot, incredibly hot. I wipe away a bead of sweat that trickles down my forehead. I'm too tired to get up, so I try my best to fall back asleep, even trying to count sheep. After many failed attempts, I give up and decide to get some fresh air.
I open my dorm door and head into the common room. Instantly, my eyes land on Draco, who is sleeping on the couch. It's quite early, so there is no one else in the room. I ponder for a minute. Do I wake him up? I look at him closely. I don't like him one bit, but he did try to apologise...
I make up my mind and decide to wake him up to get him out of trouble for sleeping on the couch.
"Draco? Draco?" I whisper-shout as I gently shake him. He doesn't wake up. I sigh, and take in his features. His sharp jawline and his silver hair. He's quite good looking, actually. If he wasn't a jerk, I'd probably have a crush on him. I realise I'm stroking his hair and my eyes widen and pull back.
I retract my hand quickly and hope he is still sleeping. He is. I sigh in relief and try to wake him up again. This time, I'm successful. He opens his eyes and looks around before they land on me. He gets up, now realising that he had fallen asleep on the couch.
"What time is it?" He croaks, his voice raspy. He starts to pull himself off the couch.
"Half-past 4," I reply.
He stops and looks at me. "Why are you awake?" He asks.
"It was too hot...I wanted some fresh air," I reply, trying to help him up as he struggles to lift himself off the couch. His eyes again travel to my bandaged arm and he frowns. Before he can say anything, I reassure him that I'm fine.
"Thanks, for waking me up," He smiles, his eyes half open. He walks to his dorm and I hear a soft "goodnight" before the door shuts.
I whisper a goodnight back, doubting he even heard me. Weird, not even a day ago I despised him, but now, I guess I don't mind him. I walk to the window and open it, grateful for the cool breeze that I feel on my face.
I've finally cooled down, and I head back to my dorm and lay down on the bed. I think about Hogwarts, Hermione, Harry, Ron and even Draco. I fall asleep in a matter of minutes.
