Chapter 13; Wanda Maximoff

Udachi moya dorogaya... = Good luck my darling...

Wanda's POV

It wasn't going to be a tough mission at all. I'd been debriefed on it for months, and it was fairly simple. It seemed almost like the weekly missions all the Avengers had as more of a teambuilding than actual work. However, I did realize how serious it was. It was a mission comprising of only 3 people, the pilot, an avenger and a SHIELD agent. It was a stealth mission, sneak in, grab some intel, and blow the HYDRA base up before leaving. Easy. Yet, if all went well, we could quite possibly wipe out every single HYDRA base in America.

"Why was I picked for this mission again?" I asked Tony who sat beside me in the back of his sleek black SUV. "Your skillset is the best suited for this mission" he answered, pushing his EDITH glasses higher up on his nose. I must've looked pretty unconvinced because he placed a gentle hand on my knee and got me to look at his brown doe eyes, "You'll do great" he reassured me with a smile as we pulled up outside of the SHIELD facility.

Nat got out of the passengers seat and Happy got out of the drivers seat, they both walked out and opened the doors for Tony and I, then proceeding to take my stuff out the car boot. "I thought Natalie Rushman was long gone..." Tony commented, looking directly at our redheaded mate. I giggled, I'd heard the story of her fake identity often and Tony shot me a smirk. Nat looked confused, "She was though", she replied, genuinely confused. The brunette man shook his head, "You're still opening doors for me though? And taking luggage out the boot?" he asked. The assassin finally caught on and smiled, "Force of habit I guess" she told us before pulling my suitcase out and wheeling it to me.

She then enveloped me in a big, affectionate hug, "Udachi moya dorogaya..." she whispered in Russian. "What did she say?" I heard Tony mutter, I saw Happy shrug out of the corner of my eye, "Something in Greek" he answered. After Nat pulled away, the two men walked up to me and Happy, being a good friend of mine was too permitted to give me a hug, which he did. Tony then stepped forward, "Take the car round the back you two, I'll be out shortly" he informed Nat and Happy. They looked confused but nodded and got in the car nonetheless, driving off towards the back of the facility. 

Tony and I then walked silently into the bustling and lively building. Instantly, Agent Phil came up to us and after a quick greeting, he took my suitcase to the helipad. I looked around, there were agents running about everywhere, busy preparing for our simple but important mission. "Tony?" I said, breaking the silence between us, "Yea?" he responded, looking at me. "Do you know who else is going to be on this mission with me?". 

He hummed and nodded his head before speaking, "Well, Clint is your pilot, he's only taking you to L.A then returning though", I nodded, glad of the fact that even if Clint wouldn't be there for the majority of the mission, he'd still be there for a small part of it. "As for the agent... um... I don't know for sure but of course they have to be the best and most skilled so I have an idea", I grimaced at this, "Last time I checked, Maria, Phil and Sharon were the top agents, Phil and Maria already told me they're not going-". Tony cut me short,

"Oh! Don't worry, we'd never let you go on a mission with Carter. A new agent has replaced her as top agent, and that's actually why I entered with you. I'm hoping to catch a glimpse of her and see whether or not I'm right." He blushed a dark pink after this short paragraph he recited but I chose not to question it. We were both silent right up to the point till we finally reached the helipad. 

Standing right in front of the elevator we emerged from was Nick Fury, director of SHIELD. I smiled a little at him, and to my surprise, he returned it. He wasn't the kind of guy that smiled often. Upon noticing that Tony was with me, he gave him a polite nod and stepped ever so slightly towards him. I noticed this and took it as a subtle hint to leave. I gave Tony a hug and he planted an affectionate kiss on the top on my head before I wheeled my suitcase towards the aircraft.
