Chapter 19: all smiles

I strode in confidently with a friendly smile and less enthusiastic look.

A small girl sat up in bed and frowned at me."You don't look very old."she said in English with a French accent.Phew.English is my strongest language.

"I should hope not."I let out a nervous laugh."I'm Kiara by the way."

"I'm Apah."The confusion on her face faded as her eyes searched me for something that could harm her.

Her eyes were so dazzingly blue it was hard to not stare – although I was taught to hold eye contact anyway.

Next step set expectations.

"I'm not going to hurt you. Unless you hurt me. But I don't want to hurt you Apah."

"Then what do you want?"

"Well for I'm supposed to be here with you for the next hour or so because my family said so.And I think I'm meant to look after you."

"I don't need looking after."

I stayed silent in the hope she'd expand on that.When she didn't I added,"Technically everyone needs looking after.Or rather support of some kind."

"Then I suppose you're a bit late Kiara.The blue people already-.They-.They weren't good to me."

"What did they do?You don't have to tell me-"

Daisy said in my ear,"Yes she does Kiara.Remember 3)personal details?" Wait up Daisy,I know what I'm doing and I'm trained by literally the same person who trained you.

"No.I will.Nothing's going to change if I do or if I don't. I'll put it simply though.They gave me the power to control water and made me torture and kill whoever they pleased."

I didn't know how to reply to that. "Kiara?Kiara you can leave if you like.Just say so and I can open the door for you."Daisy said.

I wasn't going to take that option though.Wake up brain. 

I stopped staring at her and finally spoke,"I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"Eh."Apah dismissed it ever so quickly.Guess she's had too long to process it."So what about you?"she asked,as if we were cathcing up on our weekends over coffee.

"What about me?"I repeated in a questioning tone,rolling the dice.

"Like where are you from?Did the Kree take you too?"
"I'm."I let out a hard breath and continued."I'm from my mama's womb."

Apah laughed."No but like seriously."

"I grew up in Britain and I've been here a while.Do you want to play monopoly while we talk?"That was real smooth Kiara.

"Sure.But where is it?"Apah said.

I unzipped my jacket to reveal the monopoly board.The credit cards,credit card machine,cards and player coins were distributed in my jacket's pockets.

"When did you even?"Daisy said in my ear whilst Apah said,"How did you even?"

"A magician never reveals their secrets."I said with a satisfied smirk and began laying out the pieces.

Throughout the game of monopoly, I gave her vague returning answers as she shared her painful story. Apah couldn't quite remember how to play it so I had to tell her as we went along.

A weapon to be harnessed.

That's what they saw us as.Evil humans and evil aliens alike.I'm not going to be prejudiced towards all the Kree,just because the ones I've come across are bad.That would be stupid.
