It had been three or four weeks since I appeared at the L'manburgian gates. It seemed like it's been months. It felt as though I found my place with these boys. We've all become extremely close, dueling, hunting, practicing together. The first day I got there, I made the point to stop taking "Dream's bullshit," and Wilbur said I'd be a great asset to the team.
Tubbo and I had been searching for hours in the bitter fall weather. Searching aimlessly for my horse. There was no trace of her, and we had looked everywhere. We ventured further out from the Dream SMP, and still found nothing. At this point, I didn't know what to believe. My horse pretty much vanished into thin air. I had enough of walking in the frigid weather for that day, plus we were already late for Wilbur's meeting to go over the Declaration of Independance.
"Tubbo," I called out from behind him. "we aren't going to find her here. Let's head back; we're gonna be late."
He turned around, "Are you sure y/n?" I nod back at him, giving him a reassuring look.
We walk in silence on the way back to L'manburg for a little while. Only listening to the birds singing in the distance, up in the tall spruce trees. Hearing the crushing sticks and leaves under our feet was quite pleasing to our ears. I look over at Tubbo; he seems to be deep in thought, emptily staring at the ground. I give him a small shove with my shoulder. "What's on your mind?"
He blinks out of his daze and sighs, "Just thinking about L'manburg and all that war stuff," He pauses to shoots me a curious look. "How do you feel about all of this? You kind of just showed up, and we threw all of this on you."
"I mean, after you guys helped me, I do owe it to everyone. Also, hearing the awful things Dream has done to your nation, I don't mind taking him down," My eyebrows draw together. "...and, he is one of the reasons my house is gone, my horse too."
Tubbo silently nodded in agreement while they took in the sight of L'manburg. As we got nearer, I notice a figure on top of the walls. His back was faced away from us, he had a larger structure, slim but still built, and he donned a familiar shade of green.
I shot my arm out in front of Tubbo, stopping him in his traces. Tubbo stares at the figure as well. We both fell into complete silence; no one ushering a thought. Tubbo gives an unsettled look, fear crossed his face.
"Is that Dream?" I speak out quietly, Tubbo nods immediately. I turn completely towards the walls of L'manburg. Swallowing harshly.
Trying not to draw any attention, we make it to the walls, attentively listening for any discourse or bloodshed. Neither of us heard anything, slowly I peaked into the hazy yellow windows. I see Wilbur, Tommy, and Fundy huddled up in the caravan. We both relaxed a bit, now walking freely towards the gates.
As we walked in, I felt a pair of eyes burning through me. I earned the same eerie feeling I had the night of the forest fire. I looked up to where I saw Dream before, but he was gone. This addled me a bit, but I didn't dawn on it for long after I walked into the boys' panic and trepidation.
"Oh, thank god you're here," Wilbur breathed out. "So let me quickly fill you two in. Eret has betrayed us, and now we may be in even more conflict with Dream." I took a step back; none of that made sense.
"What-" I was cut off with even more confusion as Wilbur started exiting the van. I grabbed his arm and pulled a bit, "Wilbur, where are you going?" I stared at him with concern.
"I'm going to speak with Dream. I'll be as civil as possible and try to negotiate with him." He says with his head up high, confident in himself.
We sit in the caravan. Tommy explains the events that had just gone down to Tubbo and I.
Eret had betrayed L'manburg. He set them up and sided with the enemy, the Dream team. Tommy explained how he led them to the "control room" where they were stripped of all their weapons and armor and were beaten. They had barely escaped, but luckily they did.
As they waited quietly, I slowly filled with rage. "Dream really sucks ass," I utter suddenly into the silence. Everyone breaks into laughter, agreeing. "Can't he mind his own business- We want one thing, emancipation. But he can't do it without having a temper tantrum, trying to kill us all?"
This has Tommy squealing and laughing. "Y/n, you are now my favorite woman." He says out of breath. This makes me giggle a bit, lightening the mood.
The jokes are short-lived as Wilbur comes back, waltzing back into the walls. A nervous but prideful look spread across his face, he motions for us to come outside. Dream is behind him, holding a single piece of TNT.
We stand alongside Wilbur as he states, "Independence or death."
But my focus wasn't on Wilbur's words, it was on Dream.
This is the first time I'd seen Dream face on, and I never noticed the white porcelain mask that took over his face. I glare at him. He wears a disdainful grin while leaning carelessly back against the entrance walls.
Asshole.
He takes notice of me in an instant, tilting his head towards my direction. Being content with the anger he's caused, flashing a smile from ear to ear. My jaw tightened, I hover my hand over my sword. This makes Dream chuckle slightly in amusement. I scowl at him and drop my arm back to my side, I pay attention to the conversation.
"You can blow up one piece of TNT, do all you want. It means nothing to us." Wilbur says, standing his ground proudly.
We all watch as George silently hands Dream a glowing bow, along with an arrow, lit with fire. He draws it back, and we all step aside to avoid damage from the blast.
As Dream lines his arrow up with the explosive, something dawns over me. He looks so contempt, almost too happy with the way things are going. He knows one piece of TNT wouldn't affect us.
He has something else planned.
"Wait-" I step forward, as the arrow is released from his fingers. The TNT hisses once the flaming arrowhead makes contact, Dream's face is split into an insolent grin. I turn back and pull on Wilbur's arm, "We need to get out of here, now-" My words are brief as the first bomb detonates. I fall to the ground; my ears are ringing.
I barely get back up, extremely disoriented. The world is spinning. I turn to my left and see more explosions going off. Everyone escapes through the caravan, grabbing books and potions. I blink slowly before going after them. I feel vibrations under my feet. Another bomb goes off from right underneath me. My body is jolted back towards the entrance. I strike through the grass and dirt, ramming into stacks of firewood. Adrenaline courses through me for a minute, but the intense amount pain overtakes it. I groan out loudly before falling still.
I lay on the dirt, motionless. My body is turned on my left side. I can feel my heartbeat in my ears. My eyes are shut, and I let out a small shaking breath. I can feel myself being picked up, and I assume it's Fundy or Wilbur.
I lean my head against his chest and let the world go black.
