My heart was pounding in sync with my hurried footsteps. I could feel my stomach twisting.

"I'm not saying that I'm completely against it, I just- hey, are you listening to me?"

His hand waved across my vision, startling me. I halted in my step, looking up.

"Huh?" I blurted out. Shit, had he asked me something? "Um, yes."

He laughed, which made me smile. Eijirou Kirishima had the most contagious energy of anyone I'd ever met. Maybe that's why I was drawn to him— everybody was, really. Which made me wonder: why was he drawn to me?

"Of course you weren't listening," he said teasingly. "What're you thinking about?"

"First of all, shut it, Sharky." I stuck my tongue out for effect, and he grinned. "I'm just nervous."

"Yeah, me too." He scrunched up his face. "I'm sure everybody will be nice, though. And hey, they're probably just as nervous as you are."

"What if the teachers are mean?" I countered.

"Dude, they're pro heroes. They have to be nice."

I sighed dramatically. "No, Eijirou. Everything is going to go terribly. I'm positive."

"Don't be such a pessimist," he whined, pushing my shoulder lightly. I leaned away, laughing.

"I'm just being realistic! Wait, is that it?" I pointed the the building ahead.

"The giant building with the huge 'UA' symbol on it? Yeah, probably." He nodded, his face serious besides the obvious smile he was trying to suppress.

I shot him a glare. "Okay, smartass. Race you there."

"Hey, no fair! You got a head start."

I cackled at his voice behind me, my shoes smacking against the pavement at an even pace. I felt strangely light. Or, at least, considerably less shaky.

By the time I reached the door, Kiri was right behind me. My breath heavy, I rested my hands on my knees and laughed.

"Looks like I win," I announced triumphantly, standing up straight again and brushing off my shoulders.

"Fine, but we rematch on the way home. From the convenience store to your place." He looked strangely confident for somebody who had just lost. "No head starts this time."

"What, you want to lose again?" I raised my eyebrows. "Well, if you insist-"

"Move it already, you damn extras."

The loud interjection from behind us startled me out of the conversation. I whipped around.

"Are you gonna move or should I make you?"

"Is that a threat or a promise?" I shot back with a smile. I heard Eiji stifle a laugh from beside me, but the loud blond bitch just made a face and pushed past us.

"He seems nice," Kiri cooed. I cackled.

"I'd hate to be in his class. He's kinda hot, though." I shrugged. Eiji groaned from beside me.

"You ALWAYS-"

"I'm not wrong though, am I?" I pushed the door open, and the two of us walked through.

"Regardless of whether or not you're wrong, you're being difficult."

"Hey, you signed up for this. Twelve years ago I distinctly remember asking you to be my friend, and you said you'd love to be. So look a little happier about it, yeah?"

He laughed. "Do you really remember that?"

"Of course I do. I need a sharp memory, otherwise I won't have stories to blackmail you with." I looked down the hallway, at the rows and rows of doors. "Say, do you have any idea where we're going?"

After snagging two seats in the middle of the classroom, the two of us watched as other students began to file in. The blond from earlier was sitting on my left, Kiri on my right. In front of me a girl with something that looked like earbuds growing from her ears— as weird as it sounds, she actually looked cool.

Just seconds before the bell rang for class to start, a pink-skinned girl and a boy with yellow hair scrambled into the classroom and found their seats. Despite the close call, they were laughing and joking around in seconds. I liked them already.

I glanced over at the blonde from earlier, who was glaring at the front of the class. He didn't even bother to glance at me— granted, maybe he didn't notice.

"What are you staring at?"

So he did notice. "Your dumb ass."

He slammed his hand into the desk, his eyes dangerously dark as he turned them to me. "What did you say to me?"

"Jeez, chill out, Sonic the angry hedgehog." I grumbled. He growled, moving to stand up, but at that moment a voice came from the front of the class.

"Bakugou, sit down."

The boy's— Bakugou's— hand twitched as if he was considering punching me, but he sat down. I looked to the sleepy voice that had managed to tame him, and saw none other than the pro hero Eraserhead. You'd think I would've met him before, considering my dad and all, but I hadn't met many heroes myself.

Class went by at an achingly slow pace. Maybe it was the droning way Aizawa talked, or the fact that the dude with glasses lectured us with an embarrassingly loud voice every time I tried to make a snide remark to Kiri.

By the end of the day, I felt even more tired than I had that morning. I leaned onto Eijirou's desk, my sigh muffled by my arm.

"Why was I nervous again?"

"Well, you said you were positive that everything was going to go terribly," he reminded me.

"Right, that." I turned my head to look at him. He was smiling. Damn that adorable smile. "Let's get out of here. Wanna do something fun?"

He grabbed his backpack, standing up and pulling me towards the door. "Sure. But don't forget about that rematch."
