Kirai's POV
"Kirai-chan, I am sure you know what to do in this war... But even if you do know the rules, you must stay close."
Hashirama keeps telling me the warnings every second, yet I do not find any bit of annoyance when he keeps pestering me. It means that he does care, and it makes my heart feel warm. So I nodded at him, "Of course." I never forget to smile.
He released a breath, "This is your first time out there, so do not act rash. Death will always come to us, but you have to remember that you are a shinobi. A shinobi defends their homes and protects their kin."
"Of course!"
"I am being serious, Kirai-chan. No matter how strong you proved to be, there are still people out there much stronger than you think. Do not underestimate them, even if they look young."
"Of course!"
He frowned when he saw me smile, "This is not something to be happy for... Why are you smiling? We are fighting in a war."
I lessened my wide smile into a tight-lip smile. "I am not happy to go to war, but I am willing to fight for everyone." For you...
Hashirama pursed his lips like he does not know whether to be happy or sad about that. "I like your enthusiasm, but for once, you should learn how to be more serious in serious situations."
"I do know how to... handle serious situations."
"Hm, and yet you smile. Well, I do not wish to talk about this any further. We must prepare our battle equipment to head out. I do not want father to be waiting."
And so I followed him.
As we donned ourselves into our armor that appears to be too big for our sizes, I watched as the other shinobi wore theirs as well. I have practiced and learned how to wear armor and equipment during our training, yet I will never get used to its heaviness and its disadvantages it will bring. Despite the armor specialized to defend or protect the body, there are also consequences on it.
When Hashirama wore the armor, he looked silly. Not to mention, the hair that he wants to grow longer... But despite that, his body is not fitting to wear such a thing in his age and size. But we, children, are forced to fight and there is no choice but to don our armor and die in it.
Hashirama saw me staring at him, "What is wrong? Do you not know how to wear the armor?"
I shook my head, "No... I know how to wear it."
"Then be quick. If father sees you not wearing your chainmail and breastplate, he will not give you a chance to wear one. Father will leave you open and defenseless, so you must hurry."
It took me a while to wear the armor, but since I am small and can easily fit through any open holes to insert in, I was able to wear them before Butsuma came.
Butsuma's eyes travelled, assessing his shinobi men. His eyes lingered mine longer, but stopped at Hashirama. The boy beside me walked towards his father. Since he is the next clan head, he will most likely need to be beside his father.
"Today is not much of a different day. We will be clashing with the Uchiha along with the Hagoromo clan. This day might be the same like any other past days, but it will not be the same people who will die from the past battles. Rather it could be any of us who are alive. So to all other newly recruited shinobi... Heed my words, for this war has been going on for generations, and by then your friend, family, sister, and brother will lose their lives to the bitter end because of this war. And even so, do not grieve or mourn in the middle of the war, because that is the weakness that every shinobi seeks. Try not to die."
