I was speechless. Was Ashton fucking with me or something? Calum had never once told me he loved me, even when we were together. It's just something he never said. I used to tell him constantly, after every fight, I'd tell him I loved him and he'd just kiss me, the three little words never once came out of his mouth.

"I- He-" I started, I wasn't even sure where I was going with my train of thought, nowhere if Luke had anything to do with it.

"Hey guys!" He walked in to the cafe with a huge grin on his face, whilst I was practically in tears.

"Kyle... What's wrong?" A look of worry immediately spread across his face and he instinctively put his arms around me, letting me cuddle into his chest. I felt him lift his head up, clearly looking over at Ashton.

"We were talking... about Cal." I could practically feel Luke rolling his eyes, he stood up and pulled me up with him, still cuddling me.

"Are you coming?" Ashton nodded and quickly got up, Luke was basically running to get out. I knew he just wanted to get me home.

Once we were there, he made me some hot chocolate, even though I'd just had a coffee, and came to sit next to me on the sofa. He made sure I was snuggled up with a blanket and my laptop, I was re-watching the first season of The Walking Dead. Ashton had come in too, but he wasn't sure what to do. I think he felt bad about talking about Calum, and especially the part where he loved me. I of course told him it was fine and that it wasn't his fault, he still felt guilty, though.

"Ash? Could you uh, come here for a second?" I had my earphones in but could still hear them pretty well, I muted the sound so I could hear what they were saying more clearly, they had deep voices and were only in Luke's room.

"What's up? Do you think she's okay? Was it something I said?" Ashton spoke nervously, all his words coming out in one go.

"I spoke to Calum last night, you know when he stayed over? He told me what went down between them back in his old town." Calum decided now was a good time to tell them all the shit that happened, when I was finally settled and coming to terms with having to be around him.

"What happened? Was it really bad? She was really upset and I-"

"Ash, shush. Yeah, he did a lot of bad things and hurt a lot people, mainly Kyle."

"You know, I never realised until earlier that she was the KJ. When he said it the day we met her, I didn't think twice about it."

"Me neither."

"It only hit me the other day that it was her, I mean, what are the odds?"

"Of them meeting again?"

"Of him still being in love with her." My mouth was dry and I felt so sick I could cry. Ashton knew full well how Calum felt, that much was clear. The boy who couldn't feel anything, even after years of friendship, felt love. Towards me.

The two of them came back out and I quickly un-muted the show. They both smiled at me and Ashton said goodbye, apparently he had some things to do. What that meant, I had no idea.

"Luke?" He looked up from his phone, chewing on his nail.

"What's up? More hot chocolate?" I shook my head and smiled.

"No, can we go for a walk? It's getting dark and I don't really wanna be alone."

"Yeah of course, come on." Luke grabbed a hoodie from the floor and passed it to me, how chivalrous of him. I pulled up the zipper all the way and Luke took off his beanie, putting it on my own head.

"It's cold." He smiled.

We exited the building and neither of us knew where to go, I walked past a park with Ashton earlier and vaguely remembered where it was, so we headed off down the route we came up not too long ago.

"So what happened with you and Lola? You seemed in love with her already." I laughed as we walked down the dark streets. I needed a walk but was afraid of the dark, I always have been, hence why I made Luke come with me. I made sure to keep close to him.

"Did you see her? She's gorgeous! And a maths genius!" He gushed, he was clearly very infatuated by her.

"Your perfect kind of girl then."

"Something like that." He grinned, making me smile too. His smile was definitely infectious.

"She has a boyfriend, she doesn't really like him though." He said sadly, his bright smile had faded.

"She said that?" He nodded. I felt bad for him, even though he'd met the girl once it was safe to say he was into her.

"Maybe somehow it will work out for you."

"Like you and Calum?" He asked quietly, clearly unsure if he should've said anything in the first place, I just shrugged.

"I think Calum and I were doomed from the start." I admitted, I had felt this way for a long time, even when we were together. When he would come see me after he'd been at a party, saying he adored me (of course never love) then he'd fuck up the next day, like he always did. And I always forgave him. Until I didn't.

"I know Calum told you stuff." Luke just nodded, he looked around to see where we were but he clearly had no idea, his face showed that indeed.

"Yeah, he did."

"He probably didn't tell you everything, though."

"Maybe once we get home, if we get home, we can talk about it more? I mean, if you want to, unless you, you know, don't wanna go over it again." Luke looked distressed, he took out his phone and called Ashton, he obviously knew this town better than we did. When he answered, Luke put him on loud speaker.

"I was just about to call you." Ashton sounded worried, not like his usual self.

"Why? What's going on?"

"Where are you Luke? I think you need to come back." There were muffled voices in the background, none of them familiar.

"We're, actually we don't know, we're near a park, but what's happened?"

"The girl that lives opposite Cal?"

"Yeah?"

"She's dead."
