Recap:
He smiled “I know you don’t any feelings for me but-” I cut him off by pressing my lips to his. Pulling back I said “I do have feelings for you Phoenix. I know it’s crazy. You’re human and I’m meant to be getting married but I can’t help how I feel”
His smiled returned and he wrapped his arm around me “I’m going to get you out of here Ashlyn. I don’t know how yet but I promise I will” I smiled up at him before drifting off to sleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
Mason’s POV:
Tyler found it, he’s found her scent! Happiness builds inside of me as we get closer. Tyler howls and runs faster pushing me to do the same. We reach a clearing in the woods and come to a stop. There’s no one around. Confused I look at Tyler who was changing back into his human form.
He walks over to a big pile of leaves and kicks them. There underneath them were the tattered remains of Ashlyn’s wedding dress. Disappointment floods through me and my shoulders slump. I really thought we had found her. Beside me Tyler is swearing and repeatedly hitting a tree.
“Well she’s got to be near. Try picking up her scent again”
“I can’t” He replies, resting his head against the tree.
“Sure you can just-”
“I CAN’T!” He yelled whirling around to face me “Don’t you get it? The trail led us here and it stops here. I can’t pick up her scent because it isn’t here! She’s probably dead; it’s been over a month. I’m sorry but I’m not spending the rest of my life going on a wild goose chase. It’s over” And with that he transformed and ran off leaving me stood speechless.
As much as I hate to admit it he had a point. For all we know she could be dead. Dropping to my knees I let out a scream/yell. Tears were stinging my eyes and I let them fall. I didn’t care. I’d had enough of being calm and strong. Deep down I always knew we wouldn’t find her but I pushed those thoughts away and tried to stay positive. Not anymore. All hope had gone and left behind grief.
Shakily standing I wiped my eyes and set off to find Tyler so we could go home. I had no idea how I was going to tell Ashlyn’s parents that I couldn’t find her; that I failed.
Ashlyn’s POV:
*The next day*
I awoke suddenly to the door being opened and slammed against the wall. Reid strode in with anger clear on his face. Phoenix stiffened beside me and glared at his brother.
“I can’t take it anymore! I’ve had enough of waiting. The leeches obviously don’t care that you’re gone and I’m not spending any more time in this dump with two morons and a traitor. I’m just gonna get it over with a kill you” He grinned evilly as he approached me.
