Martha, our housekeeper, opened up the door for me, "I'm so glad you're home Sydney, but I know someone who isn't pleased"

Dear old Martha, I think I have an idea.

"Give me the full rundown Martha, on a scale of one to ten how angry do you think she is?" I asked worriedly.

"At first she was at a good 8, but after the chamomile tea I served to her she's at a 5" she said to me.

"Thank you, thank youuu, you're a lifesaver Martha" I said and hugged her tightly.

"I know, go on, she's in the study" she egged me on.

I nodded and walked to the study which felt like the longest walk of my life.

Soon enough, I was at the door of the study.

"Oh dear Jesus, please don't let her yell at me, I promise not to steal ice cream from Aaron's side of the fridge again" I whispered a small prayer.

I knocked softly and entered without waiting for a reply.

"Hi Madre, you look so beautiful this evening, that skin care routine is really working out" I tried kissing up to her.

Keyword: tried.

"Thank you Niña, you think so? Now tell me, where were you and why are you coming back at this time?" She began her interrogation.

"I can explain mom, I was at a friend's place and he was giving me a tour of his house and I lost track of time and his mom even invited us for dinner this weekend, I'm sorry mom, I'm so very sorry" I said and mustered up the saddest face I could.

"And who's this friend of yours, do I know him?" She asked curiously.

I know what she's getting at. I don't understand why she's so invested in my non existent love life.

"I met him today at Aunt Denise's Cafe, his name's Damien Montenegro and he lives around just a few blocks down from here" I answered her.

"Wait, did you say Montenegro?" She asked surprisingly.

"Yeah, why?" I asked curiously.

"His mom's name is Iris or am I wrong?" Okay now I'm weirded out.

"Yes, why, do you know her?" I sighed.

"Oh my gosh yes, Iris and I were classmates, we belonged to the same clique of friends, the hot shots, back in the day, oh I lost contact with her so many years ago but I heard her name pop up on the radio one morning" my mom explained.

Huh, what a small world.

"So you're not angry anymore right?" I asked.

"Oh no, you're grounded and that's final, no more Café after school, you'll come straight home" she concluded.

I felt the blood drain out of my face, she can't be serious.

"But mom I said sorry and I-" she cut me off, "That's my final decision, but you can tell Iris that we will be there this weekend"

At least I'll get to see Damien again.
Wait what?

"Okay mom" I said and walked to my room without a word, Martha saw the look on my face and gave me the "it's going to be okay" look.

I took off my shoes and collapsed on my bed, replaying the whole day out in my head, from spilling the coffee to getting grounded. It's been a long eventful day.

And with that I fell asleep.

*******

"Sydddddd!!!.....Syd wake upppp!!!" My brother Aaron yelled into my ear.

"Aaron, what the fuck?" I yelled. Then I realized what I had just done. I've always had a cussing problem.

"Mommmm Syd said a bad word, Syd said a bad mmm-" I covered his mouth before he could continue.

"Okay pal, let's do this, I'll buy you ice cream when I'm returning from school if you don't tell mom what just happened" I bribed him.

"Okay deal, I want Chocolate ice cream" he added.

"Yeah yeah whatever, now get the fuck out of my room you noisy little shit" I said groggily.

"Okay, I hope you'll add skittles and Kit Kat for saying two more bad words" and with that I shot out of bed and threw him a look before he ran off.

I hate weekday mornings.

I got out of bed and went to do my business in the bathroom.

Today I decided to wear a white oversized tee with leggings and my Nike air force ones.

I brushed my hair and left it in its natural curly afro state and I put on mascara and lipgloss. I'm not a make-up person, and it's not because I don't like it, I just don't know how to do it, trust me I've tried.

I grabbed my backpack and went downstairs to grab breakfast.

My stepdad and mom were sitting at the kitchen island when I got there.

"Good morning" I said without looking at them.

"Remember Alexandra, come straight home today" my mom reminded me.

"Why, what happened?" My stepdad Gerald asked.

"She was out late last night" my mom told him.

"Gerald I was out with her friend's son, and I was at his place, but nooo, she had to ground me for two weeks" I argued.

"Come on Grace, two weeks is a little harsh don't you think, or you mean to tell me you never stayed past your curfew as a teenager? Cut her some slack" and this people, is why I love Gerald, he's always the voice of reason.

Mom looked back and forth between the both of us and sighed, "Okay then, but this should be your last time, whenever you're out and you know you'd stay past your curfew give me a heads up first, got it?"

I nearly danced for Joy, "Oh my gosh, Yes, Yes, Yessss! Thanks Gerald, and you too mom" I said and hugged both of them and left.

"Good morning Sydney" my driver Colt said when I got out.

"Hey Colt, good morning" I said and got into the car.

Dear God, please give me strength to endure this day, I thought to myself as we left home.

****Author's note****
So Gerald seems cool, which is a good thing.
Next chapter we'll go into Syd's school life, more drama up ahead.
