Chapter 12
Farrah sighed at her phone that morning and didn't bother looking at the caller i.d.. She just let it go to voicemail and then listened to it.
"Where'd you go, Farrah?" Sam asked. "We called Charlie, she said she hadn't spoken to you since last year. Just text me, please. Tell me why you left."
She sighed. Castiel told them. Of course he would. But she couldn't help but to smile; he wouldn't keep a secret from Dean.
Ask Dean. Ask him why you guys don't need me.
Don't need you? he responded almost instantly. Of course we do.
She didn't reply and set to getting ready.
Sam looked at his brother. "What did you do?"
"You'll have to be more specific," he said as he flicked through a mag.
"To Farrah. What'd you say to her?"
"I was mad, I didn't mean any of it."
"Dean," Cas accused harshly, "tell us what made her leave."
Slapping down the magazine, Dean sat up. "I told her we didn't need her. And we don't. We got by without her before, we can do it again." Only he felt the pang of hurt in his chest from his words. Farrah's safety was all that mattered.
"Dean!" both Cas and Sam exclaimed in shock. Cas continued, "Farrah is your daughter. How could you say that?" Recalling how she had kindly told him how he was family, he added, "Would you react similarly if I did the same things?"
"This isn't about you, Cas."
"But if it were."
Dean sighed and stood up to walk away. "It isn't, and it won't ever be. This is my problem, and I'll do what I want with it."
Sam stared after his brother's retreating back. "Cas, can you find Farrah?"
"No. I am sorry, Sam."
"It's fine," he sighed. "I know you care about her too, and you'd find her if you could."
Cas considered this. "I do care about her. I think I love her."
Farrah, pointing a gun filled with rock salt at nothing, felt a small jolt in her chest. She blinked. Suddenly there was something opening up in her mind. She could feel a new spot in her brain becoming active.
"Farrah, lighter fluid please," said Garth, holding out his hand dramatically. She didn't respond as she tried to discover what was happening. "Farrah."
"Sorry. Uh, right. Here."
The spot in her brain was fluid, like water. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, reaching back and prodding it gently. A sharp pain echoed into her consciousness, and a vision appeared behind her eyelids. Castiel, speaking to Sam.
He frowned and rubbed the back of his head. As Farrah prodded her mind, his pain seemed to grow sharper. Finally when one jab sent him to his knees, hers nearly buckled.
"Sorry, Castiel," she muttered. She saw his lips moving, but the vision was fading, and she couldn't tell what he was saying.
Well, she thought, at least she knew one thing: poking around her mind caused Castiel pain. Just add that to the list of things she needed to figure out.
