"And that, of course, is the message of Christmas. We are never alone. Not when the night is darkest, the wind coldest, the world seemingly most indifferent..." ~Taylor Caldwell

3rd Person POV:Athena Morningstar had always hated Christmas. Until now. With the Mikaelsons, she never got any presents except Davina, or Kol, or Keelin. But since she made her great escape to Mystic Falls, everything changed. With her new family, she learned what it felt like to be truly loved and Christmas became her favorite holiday. She loved the sparkle of mystic falls was with its cozy little shops, piles of crystalline snow, tall evergreen trees. It was a place where she felt pure joy. Actual happiness.
She was adorable and extremely happy. Her brunette locks shining in the reflection of the sun, with little flecks of light on it. The twinkle in her brown orbs when she smiled, reaching her eyes. She was the kind of person who could be the nicest person you've ever met, but if you crossed her she could be your worst nightmare. A nightmare dressed like a daydream. The most terrifying type of person.
Athena walked over to the window and carefully observed the outside world. She sighs. The snow slipping from the clouds. She watched as it danced in the light, a choreographed ballet conducted by the gentle breeze.
Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Lizzie Saltzman. A shivering, Lizzie Saltzman.
Athena rolls her eyes. She should've known that Lizzie would rather be cute than warm.
As Athena stepped outside and Lizzie came closer, she could see the sheepish look on her face. With a disapproving tut, Athena scolds her best friend.
"Lizzie Saltzman, put a scarf on before you freeze."
"I'm fine, Athena" she shivers.
"Lizzie! You're freezing." Athena points out.
"Where's your scarf then?" Lizzie fires back.
Athena takes a few steps towards Lizzie. "My mom is the queen of hell, dummy, I'm always hot."
Lizzie gazed at her with pure annoyance. Yet she grabs the scarf from her friend's hand.
"Wanna build a snowman?" Lizzie asks the brunette.
"Why not" Athena shrugs. She walks over to the tall blonde and together they roll up to three snowballs, each one smaller than the next.
"Hey Liz," Athena calls while placing the medium-sized snowball on the top of the larger one, "Fun fact: the Christmas alphabet has Noel."
Lizzie laughs, "How are you older than me?" she wonders aloud.
Athena scoffs, "How rude-olf of you." Lizzie shakes her head and walks away.
Later that day...
Athena carefully grabs the baking pan out of the oven. She places the hot tray on the kitchen counter admiring her perfectly shaped cookies. To get into the proper Christmas spirit, she just had to bake cookies. It just wouldn't be a Morningstar Christmas without them. Lizzie stalks into the kitchen, having smelled the sweet treats from the living room.
"Do you think I made enough cookies?" Athena asks her.
"T, you bought everything in the bakery aisle, twice!" Lizzie laughs and goes to grab a cookie from the tray. Athena slaps her hand away.
"You cannot, under any circumstances, eat one of these cookies!"Athena scolds, "They're for decoration!"
Lizzie stares at Athena in disbelief. "I can't even eat them?"
"No"
Athena suddenly starts to shake, almost falling over. Her eyes rolling far back into her head. Lizzie panics, not knowing what to do. Then, she stops. Athena stops shaking and goes back to normal.
"T, what was that?" Lizzie questions.
"They're coming," she whispers before she drops to the ground.
